Is there any specific reason as to why MGSV is underperforming in Japan? Is it just because of the declining home console market?

We can see the PS4 version is becoming more and more the target platform to customers, and it's install base is still modest, to say the least.
Japan is way, way, way lower as it was in 2008, as a matter of comparion, MGS 4 was not even the top in COMG in it's release date, even with both the normal and LE combined, that went near 700 points (there was a DS game with over 700 points).
Japan economy is way weaker.
The series may be hitting saturation, it was supposed to end in the PS2 with MGS 3.
Konami/Kojima stuff happening.
Migration to mobile gaming, where is hard to any game to sell very well there as MGS 4, anyway, even handheld games only a few are actually still strong as well.

And to be honest, poor hype, it's a multiplatform cross gen game, it's not being as impressive new breakgrounding stuff and that much hyped as the past games, lack of exclusivity is hurting it's marketing.

That's a shame, because it looks to be an even better game than MGS4. 

At the very least, it should boost PS4 hardware quite a bit opening week. Likely not as much as MGS4 boosted the PS3, but it's still a notable release and will strike an audience in Japan.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.
