Forums - Nintendo - THE 3DS is not a Casual system!

Everything made to be more accessible is casual in a way.

You're not wrong there... It will be good to see how much the next generation will both close and open the gap at the same time.

everything you don't macgyver yourself is casual.

The 3DS in all it's iteration (original or XL) is not a casual system, nor is it a hardcore/gamer's system. It's an everyone that plays games system!!! It is the BEST dedicated handheld system out there with the best balance of performance, price, diversity of games, and non-gaming apps. Only Nintendo hating fanboys would vehemently deny that fact (which they are irrelevant anyways since real gamers and mainstream has already chosen the 3DS is the current king of handhelds with it's current sale)

Casual is a style of play, not a specification of hardware or software. Or a genre. Or a demographic per se.

The style of play is dependent on the demographic of it's consumer.  For the most part the 3DS (as with all of Nintendo's gaming systems and handhelds) are made up of dedicated Nintendo enthusiast (gamers),non-Nintendo only gamers, casuals, and youngsters. Thus encompasing the everyone gaming culture which makes Nintendo handhelds so successful.

Wow there are a lot of opinions on here.
Honestly, I don't see how anyone can really say that the 3DS is a casual console and can logically call any other console hardcore.
Gaming isn't about the device, it's about the game. The 3DS has plenty of hardcore experiences to share, whether anyone who says the 3DS is a casual device would like to admit it or not.

Bolded: I don't get it

As for what you say the 3DS demographic is mostly made up of, I'm really not sure what you're trying to say with it.  Every console has its casuals, youngsters, ____ enthusiasts, and so on.  You could really say that about any console.

Non-Nintendo fanboys...I know a lot of Xbox  and Sony fanboys (lol...yes the Vita is that much in trouble)  that game on the 3DS.

Not always. I believe it is very possible to play many games labeled as "casual" in a rather hardcore fashion through the process of mastery.
