Forums - Sales - SimCity sells 1.6m, FIFA 13 does 14.5m and EA profits (and more!)

What's with these companies and their super high predictions? It just turns otherwise good sales into disappointments. Are their teams just overpaid that they have to sell that many to turn a profit? Are they overspending on advertisement or taking too long to finish games?

Ea seems to be doing really well. I wonder how below dead space and crysis are to there expected sales though.

we could safely pressume that dead space was fell short by millions, since they wanted the game to sell 5 freaking million

Isn't dead space a relatively popular franchise though. How much did the previous games sell?

Yea the first was popular and a nice survior horror game that was morphed to a space fps and im sure lost alot of its audience along the way.  Dont know why companies constantly go against the grain on games that proved to be highly successful.

Ahh that makes sense. There is really no need to change the whole formula if it works. I've never played it, but have heard that sentiment echoed.

if i remember correctly around 2 million. and it wasnt that big a franchise, it was a third person space horror game, it certainly wasnt a mass market game.

Oh wow, I always thought the franchise was a lot bigger for some reason.EA expectations is ridiculous then, to have the game more then double the sales.

from what i understood and saw they tried to make it more like gears to attrack more people, which ultimatly alianted their original fan base and then failed to bring new consumers. really stupid move IMO

Activition and Take Two report this week also, I guess we can continue to discuss how these companies are suffering by not investing heavily into nintendo.

Activision is at least being fair, and i discovered this post because someone reported it.

By which i mean, we've all said our piece on the EA thing and generated a lot of ill-will (i'll fess up to that much), so its probably time to stop sniping over it.

Does no one find the FIFA digital sales comment odd?

yes, that's what i was going to post, physical sales decreased but overall sales increased 30% because digital sales increased ~95%? that makes no sense, that would mean digital sales are huge and i don't really believe that for fifa since it's mainly a console game.

14.5 million people bought FIFA 13 ?

I'm sad to read this, the game is FIFA 12 packed as FIFA 13.

Not buying it this year.

Is it offered as a full game on LIVE and PSN?

Yes. Definitely on PSN at least and then very probably on Live as well.

Still, the price is ridiculous.

Could just be that the digital marketplaces are really starting to take off. I know Nintendo has remarked some surprise the proportion of their retail game sales coming off of E-shop instead.

Could be easier in Europe, being FIFA's bigger market and where the companies don't completely fleece you for decent broadband.
