I completely agree. I had the same reaction when i found out about it.

Yet another FPS... yay! We dont have enough of those yet apparantly.

I'm willing to bet with you that FPSs were not released as much as RPGs or Platformers this year.

And even if it is, what's the problem? Why all this hate towards a genre that is doing really well?

Is it because it's doing well that it is provoking anger on you guys?

I don't play JRPG that much but each month there is like megaton of them released in Japan and they are mostly CTRL+C, CTRL+V.

Do I hate them for that? No, I just think who likes that genre is lucky and giving devs a lot of attention with their wallet.

If you think JRPG's are all ctrl+c and ctrl+v, FPS' would be carbon copies.

Seriously... do you remember the first wolfenstein and the first doom? How has the genre's gameplay evolved since those games? They still play the same. I dont understand how some people dont get absolutely fed up by them. Its always the same game gameplay wise with different colors. On a JRPG at least the combat systems change so it really isnt the same gameplay wise.

Couldn't disagree more.  Games like Wolfenstein and Doom for example had "All the weapons you can pick up" and Random Health packs.  Which basically... no FPS uses these days.  Throw in vehicles, cover, ironsights  the various different kinds of guns, different kinds of enemies.  Then throw in the added stuff some do like Bioshock or those games where you hack peoples brains etc... it changes a lot more then your average RPG franchise.

Really no FPS plays like Wolfenstein or Doom did.

Cover? Were not talking about 3rd person shooters here.

Well i am forced to agree to disagree. You still point and shoot the same way you did decades ago. Its still the same game.

First person shooters use cover all the time.   Medal of Honour Heroes 2, for example on the Wii.

I feel like you think it's the same game just because you haven't really played them.

Me, i don't even like FPS much, and I actually like JRPGs quite a bit... JRPGs are far less removed from Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy then FPS are from Doom and Wolfenstein.  (And FF and Dragon Warrior came out first.)

The only battle system change greater then some of the stuff i mentioned is the ones that go real time... and even then... they are just copping from adventure games.

Also... for christs sake best i can tell your avatar is Ike.  Talk about a series that hasn't changed from it's roots.  (and thank god for that.)

This list is incomplete; you can help by expanding it.

No shit. Warren Spector is nowhere to be seen.

I'm way ahead of you (check again)

I still don't see it on there.  I think it could be his fanbase keeps removing him from it.

Ok, this cover must be crouching down behind something i'm guessing. No, its not anything new. Sorry dude, but FPS have the same boring gameplay for decades. I really dont get how you dont see it.

Just cause i like Ike doesnt mean i'm a hardcore fan of all things fire emblem. Though awakening changed things quite a bit for the better.

RtCW was a great game, so not sure what Spector (and I have a LOT of respect for the guy) is mumbling about - if anything, genre needs to move away from modern shooters, and revisiting one of FPS classics is a good start.

Now, in that spirit, can we have next No One Lives Forever too?

There are FPS with a full blown cover system. Killzone, for one.

If its what i see here. Its only the camera beeing titled slightly.

We're really gonna have to agree to disagree. Theres no way you can convince me that FPS dont play the same as they did in the past. And i have played modern day ones, and hated them quite a bit for beeing the same boredom they always have been. They ALL play the same. You might throw in some new colors, characters or even some obstacles in the way and call them cover, but i have played this game 20 years ago and its been repacked multiple times ever since. If you played doom/wolfenstein/quake/unreal, you can play any CoD, Battlefield, or this new Wolfenstein.

Well, yeah, of course it looks that way because it's from a first person point of view. But you're actually locked on to the cover.

There are others that use it, too, but most of them seem to like going into third person view when you take cover.
