Forums - Gaming - Xseed acquires Atlus Online; becomes Marvelous USA

Xseed grew today starting with the acquisition of Atlus Online from Index Digital Media. Atlus Online handles MMORPGs like BattleSpace, Knights of the Sky, Pandora Saga, and Shin Megami Tensei Imagine.

This new company has a rather familiar name, Marvelous USA and will be run by Shinichi Suzuki who is the current President and CEO of Xseed and former President of Atlus USA. Ken Berry will continue to direct publishing and localization efforts for console and handheld games. Tatsuya Nishioka from Marvelous AQL will handle digital titles from Marvelous Online.

“Marvelous USA unifies our US operations under the global Marvelous brand while giving our customers topnotch products and support for both traditional and online social and mobile games,” said Shinichi Suzuki, President and CEO of Marvelous USA. “Our Xseed Games console and PC brand will continue to offer the quality games and service for which it is known, and Marvelous Online gives us expanded reach into mobile and online social gaming markets.”

The wording of this whole article is really weird so from the comments below, I think this is relevant:

"We're still going to be releasing games under the name XSEED, just as we always have.

If this announcement has any repercussions to XSEED stuff, it'll be that (A) we might get more overseas support than ever before, and (B) we might get more Marvelous titles. Both of which are good things. ;)"

The Xseed brand is still there. And more Marvelous titles? Badgenome will be pleased...

But they will continue to be called XSeed for branding purposes? Marvelous.

If they bring it over, I will buy it again!

But yeah. I was just thinking about how Marvelous has been something of a saving grace for me this generation with Square-Enix and Capcom and Sega being such massive disappointments. Deadly Premonition, No More Heroes, Muramasa, Half-Minute Hero, Senran Kagura, Soul Sacrifice... and Nier, Lost Odyssey, and Blue Dragon, too, if you count Cavia, feelplus, and Artoon having been folded into AQ at large. Such a great publisher and developer. They have brought the good stuff!

Seems like they're a niche enough company that they wouldn't need to worry about holding their old name for branding purposes.

But it is good to hear of their success and growth. They've always done right by their customers, which is tough in their specific line of work.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Xseed brand consists of doing translations, and then sending back to the original japanese developer to program it in.
Sometimes they even take fan translations (Ys Games) and put it in their games. Or take others (Last Story, Pandora's Tower), and publish it in the U.S.

There's not a whole lot to screw up.
I'm happy Xseed does this. And I love trails in the sky (Hopefully they'll bring over the rest or else X_x).

Pretty nifty.

I just hope this means more games!

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I respect Xseed

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.
