No.

There are plenty of creative games to choose from these days - parents just have to make sure their kids have access to them. I'm starting my kids off with Nintendo and I plan on introducing them to the indie scene as well. That should be enough creativity to inspire.

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

No.

Then what start with Minecraft?

No, either.

I will force feed them Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and they are going to LIKE it... or else.

I HATE Heroes of Might and Magic (Because I suck at it, mainly). I played as a kid and could never pass the second chapter! (As humans, if I recall correctly, they were the first campaign.). I grew up hating that game :(

Nah, they'll be fine.

To be safe first give them a gun to train, then let them play shooters when they become 13. Sounds like a killer combination.

Damn you and your ineptitude! *wriggle cane in your general direction* I pirated that game as a kid because I had no money, then I got the real version somewhere down the line and then again when it went on GOG. Every time I bought the game I spend more than 500 hrs on it like a crack addict with an unlimited supply of crack.

But the BEST way to play HoMM is with a friend in hotseat on a MASSIVE map with 6 other ai. Build you empire, take out the NPC and prepare for the FINAL BATTLE against your friend to conclude an epic saga on the rise and fall of dynasties!

I find the OP to be really... delicious? It's not exactly ironic, but I worry more about kids just playing games in general, rather than what genre.
