Kakaku.com research group has released the results of their recent gaming survey. The survey received responses from 5,599 Japanese adults about their gaming and purchase habits. The full survey covers both consoles and smartphone devices, but I'm just going to post the console related responses here.

PS2 above 3DS in what they play on (albeit not what's gamed on most)? Wut?  Hell it's close to everything other than PC which I didn't know was so big in Japan.

Really PSP is that low?...

There's a few things to note and clarify about the research results here.

First, the study was conducted among adults. The fact that minors were excluded will result in a reduction of the apparent Nintendo share (and PSP as well), and a small inflation of smartphone/PC related share.

Second, the study was conducted among the general population, not gamers. A full quarter of respondents answered that they do not currently play any games. Not even Angry Birds (well in Japan it would be Puzzle&Dragons).

Third, and related to the first two, this is a general gaming survey, and includes smartphone and browser games. It's not just retail games like Zelda or Final Fantasy. That's why the PC share is so high.

Given all this, the amount of people responding that they are planning to buy a PS4 is pretty astounding.

PC already gets plenty of porn games.

X360 owners plan to stick with MS. That bodes well for Cave.
