"The company announced its yearly financial results earlier today, saying 10million DS games are expected to be sold before 31 March 2014.

However there was no forecast for DS hardware units, with the forecast column left blank.

It would be no surprise if the DS was to be discontinued, considering Nintendo's plans to further market its 3DS handheld.

If this is the end of the DS then it's had a superb run, shifting 153million units since launching in 2004 and becoming the company's best-selling console.

In fact only the PlayStation 2 has sold more units than the 3DS at 155million.

We'll bring you more as soon as we hear it."

sad news, but will this help the 3ds? THe DS has been selling well in america, and now the only option is the 3DS, will more people take it now?

Help it to do what? 3DS is taking over the world!!!

In a certain way, yes, it would help. But even if they stop manufacturing it right now it will continue to sell for some months.

Its not discontinued. There are just not official predictions.

It'll definitely help it in USA, I reckon

Not really, its not like the DS is selling so well now that its taking a chunk out of 3DS sales, its barely doing anything.

It will help, but only in the long-term. DS consoles will still be available for purchase new and used in game stores for a while yet. As long as it is sitting right next to 3DS consoles at half the price, looking practically the same, it will hurt sales.

but perhaps people think that 3ds is just another ds-refresh and not a new system.

i doubt that their are THAT much stupid people out their that are getting mixed up becasue A. 3ds has been on display in major stores from day1, people can clearly see its a different product then and two. they are still buying DSs because they are cheaper than the 3dss, now even if they stopped sellling ti, their is no guarantee that that would equal a sale for 3ds if people think its too expensive to begin with.

Nobody discontinues something that sells 20k + units per week on a cpnstant basis
Although i must say DS is pretty dead around here, in America is selling pretty well, actually hurting 3DS sales
Anyway its a win win for Nintendo
