I'm glad this thread was made. I'm going to show that map to my girlfriend. She calls it soda, I call it pop, we playfully argue about it all the time.

Here in Australia, I've never really heard anyone call it anything but Soft Drink (in general - "Soda" is usually short for "Soda water", and "Coke" is a brand name only; we don't generally use "pop" at all).
I call it soda, didn't know most people in Colorado say pop...weirdoes...:p
Well the popvssoda website showed that Colorado has gotten more green, so I guess it isn't as strange to say soda anymore.
It's been nearly two decades since I've heard anyone call them "pop", And I've lived all over the country. It goes without saying I do not agree with that chart at all. I always thought "pop" was more of a UK thing TBH.
That being said, I currently live in Atlanta, and most older folks here call every soft drink Coke. Which is somewhat understandable considering this is Coke's home city (people take that stuff to heart here). Younger folks, much like myself, call it just "soda" though.

Come to Midwest and you'll hear it
It's pop where I live. The only time I hear soda is when people mean carbonated water.
