Red Steel 2
Silent hill: Shattered memories
Arc rise fantasia
The original Deus Ex- Didn't know much about it and had my girlfriend buy me the budget GOTY edition a few yrs after release. It's now my favourite game of all time and I play through it at least once a year.
Final Fantasy VII- Didn't know what to expect, the first 4 hours sucked me in and I've been an RPG fan since.
Age of Empires- My first RTS and still one of my favourites.
Dishonored- Even with all the trailers I didn't think it'd be that great; most non-elder scrolls Bethesda games are pretty poor. Glad to say I was wrong.
Tales of symphonia. I played tos2 first on the wii and while a good game it was kinda dissapointing. when I started the first and saw i could only move in 2d during battles i thought it was gonna be terrible but then... MIND BLOWN, one of the best games ever. i think only xenoblade tied with it in the action rpg category.
Mass Effect 2
I never played the first Mass Effect and I wasn't really into the sci-fi genre, but the game BLEW ME AWAY and got me all interested in science fiction. I didn't know anything about the story, but all the dialogue about saren and sovereign from the first game gave it a sense of epicness that was being continued in ME2 with a mysterious new foe. The dialogue (all their kinds) is the best I've seen and the levels are gorgeous and makes sense. Top it off with AMAZING, interesting characters and definitely a game deserving of all its GOTY awards.
Some games I didn't expect to be very good (but at last I consider as masterpiece).
Final Fantasy 7
Wild Arms 1
Grandia 1
Legend of Legaia
