There's not a single problem with being traditional. If anything, too much change can break a franchise. Not adding anything new can make it stale, though.

From what I've seen so far from next gen shooters (KZ and BF4) all they show is better graphics, and nothing else... Which is kind of a shame really. I would have wanted to see some new game play mechanics, or something, but they're lacking...
And I doubt that PS4 would be a better console to tell a story on than PS3... That's really down to the writers, not the specs. Story telling most certainly was hindered before (like gen 3-5), but I don't think there's a good reason why there can't be good stories on current gen.

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I'm sure the new technology will bring forth new depths to gaming - it'll just be up to developers to take advantage of it which pretty sure majority wont unfortunately... |
I'm still convinces that as far as story telling goes, you could have done anything this gen that you'll be able to do next gen... And besides, movies are way better at telling a good story (and books even more so!), what games does best is interaction... Which means game play :P

Speaking with Edge Magazine (#253 – May 2013), Hideo Kojima in an answer to a question about how next generation consoles can affect his ability to tell stories, talked about latest entry in Killzone series: “ I think it depends on the people creating the games. for example, Killzone looks very traditional; it probably won’t change very much. it will probably be similar to what you’ve seen before. but if the creators are very conscious of all the social aspects, and working that into their method of storytelling, then i think we’ll see some very interesting things happen. i think, at the very least, next gen broadens the possibilities of what can be done with storytelling.“ it’s obivous that he’s talking about the only next gen Killzone game, Killzone: Shadow Fall. what do you think? is it bad to be traditional? Killzone: Shadow Fall will be available Q4 2013 only on PS4. http://baziwood.ir/1392/01/26/kojima-killzone-looks-very-traditional/

this is the pot calling the kettle black. he should use his own games as far as "tradition" goes.

I don't agree. I've played 2 MGS games, and watched videos of all of them extensively, and they are all quite different from each other. |
i played them too, i still sneak around, i still have a tranq gun, i still use rations, i fail to see the difference other than plot and story and maybe a dumb octopus video at the begining.
Nothing new, Killzone is an averange and very generic shooter. I cant stand it's awful story since first game.
It's strange that Sony decided to move such a weak franchise to the PS4. I would prefer to see a completly new game.
I like a good mix of both. For established franchises I like to see them stick to there universe, and play mechanics with improvements on each iteration. When devs or publishers try to branch out a franchise (card, kart, shooter-> Hack and slash, ect.) I loose interest.
If they want to try a new style of game, make a new franchise, develop a world around that gameplay that makes since. It should be these new franchises that bring unseen new gameplay, and story telling elements to the next gen.
There will always be a place for traditional generic side scrollers, fps, rpgs, and adventure games, as long as they have good atmosphere, and a good plot.
