Forums - Microsoft - If Japan Plays 1 Million Hours On Xbox 360, Microsoft Will Give Free Microsoft Points

Siliconera

One million hours is a lot of video game time. Microsoft is putting out an incentive to get Japanese gamers to spend it with Xbox 360 instead of other hardware. Microsoft Japan’s Aim to Do It! One Million Hours Campaign will reward all Xbox Live members – free and gold subscribers – with Microsoft Points for playing Xbox 360 between April 20 and June 19.

If Japan spends 300,000 hours on Xbox 360 during that time Xbox Live gold members will get 100 MSP and Xbox Live free members get 10 MSP. Reach 500,000 hours of cumulative playtime and gold members net 200 MSP while free members get 20 MSP. If Japan makes it to a million hours, Microsoft Japan will give 400 MSP to gold members (enough to get some older XBLA games) and 30 MSP for free members.

The catch is not all Xbox 360 games are counted towards Japan’s Xbox 360 play time. You have to be playing one of these 20 games:

Battlefield 3

Forza Motorsport 4

Forza Horizon

Halo 4

Dance Central 2

Skyrim

Gears of War Judgment

Crysis 3

Far Cry 3

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Bioshock Infinite

Borderlands 2

Tomb Raider

Resident Evil: Revelations

Resident Evil 6

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge

Caladrius

Dodonpachi: Saidaioujou

Child of Eden

Monster Hunter Frontier G or Monster Hunter Frontier

Of course, only consoles that are connected online count towards the total too and participants must enroll in Xbox Live Rewards. Will Japan be able to do it? We’ll find out in June.

Well a bunch of them got 1 million coins pretty damn fast for NSMB2 so I imagine that someone is already devoting 20 hours a day to this cause.  How much are these points worth considering I am not familiar with the currency (just says enough to get some older games)?  It doesn't sound like much for that amount of hours.  I don't even see how this is possible.

Based on the required games good luck with that.

Good luck Japan. (what was going through their minds when they chose these?)

Most of these are also on PS3.

While it's a good marketing idea, I don't think it's a big enough reward. Microsoft is clearly struggling in Japan and need to offer some bigger incentives to get people to play/care about the 360.

MS, just leave japan. They don't want you. They do their own party.

Yeah, I'm not even sure if these games together would be played 300,000 hours offline...

What does that have to do with this thread?

They would rather play it with friends on PS3 rather than Xbox. MS made a bad choice here.
