i havent bought an FPS since late 2011 when i bought MW3, i didnt play it as much as MW2 and the only reason i bought it was because me and my brother split the cost. i prefer 3rd person shooters to be honest. but this year Killzone shadow fall is coming out and destiny next year, so in way is the genre dead to me.

To me they died after Wolfenstein 3d but that's just me.

honestly i think its doing just fine. i have always been a FPS gamer since i was like 8 years old. i played COD, BF,HALO,MOH ( when it was good), and many other games. i also love 3rd person games, and strategy. and i understand FPS games are starting to be alike and that there needs a game to be completely different like destiney. just wait for Next gen consoles you'll get something fresh then.

Overall, i think FPS is not dead, just the overdone military shooters from this generation. They are getting boring, but other types of FPS will always be there and seem so refreshing. I just got the platinum trophy in Far Cry 3 and have to say it was one of my favourite FPS games ever, the setting, characters and story was just good and refreshing. While, Call of Duty is just getting a bit dull and boring, it's been the same thing for the last 6 years really.  

Never really got into them. I like the old COD games in the WW2 setting (PC). And I own Killzone 2 and the Resistance games. Apart from those titles, I have no interest in the genre. Every now and again one may get my attention, like Bioshock Infinite.

Military shooters have been dead to me for a while.

However FC3 was a lot of fun, yet most of that fun was from exploring the island finding all the hidden treasures and hunting. Causing chaos in camps from far away was ok too, but when it got to the standard assault course missions I started to tune out. Still engaging enough to go for the platinum trophy.

Halo 4 was ok, got bored on a second playthrough, traded in.
Bioshock Infinite was ok, got bored on a second playthrough, traded in.
For both it was more the sightseeing and story that kept me going, bored of the standard shooter gameplay.

I love playing in first person. But please think of something else then repeatedly throw little groups of enemies at you, clear room after room, so boring. Make it about the hunt, not killcount. The assassinate missions in FC3 were good, and I loved Stalker. (apart from the last level)

I think you're mixing up third-person shooters (TPS) with first-person shooters (FPS).

In TPS's you're looking person looking over your character in a third person perspective. In FPS games you're look through the eyes of your avatar.

Shooters like COD, Battlefield and Metal of Honor, Bores me.

fps died for me when they became consolified about 10 years ago thanks to games like halo. back then FPS games had one revolution coming after another (quake, thief, unreal, half life, system shock 2, deus ex, quake 3 arena) and suddenly halo took the genre back several years

this is an honest opinion, i was a pc gamer back then and barely knew what the xbox was so it has nothing to do with anti MS bias.

but i've seen glimpses of hope with bioshock, portal and killzone so hopefully this coming gen the bro shooter bubble will burst and we will see more fps with substance

Which one's are TPS? Dead Space is FPS, Vanquish i though was FPS (maybe not, i played it ages ago so can't remember. Good game though) But Borderlands, Bioshock and Far Cry are definately FPS. I know the difference between the 2 types but i forgot i had played any TPS games. Maybe Uncharted counts as a TPS as much as it is action-adventure.
