Wow, think of the games they could make with 7 GB of RAM.

lol... same games they would have made with 3GB avail?

: ( I was being sarcastic.

I'm not... 7GB RAM for games can create fully open worlds games with super quality textures.

"players can watch each other play, and background downloading of games"

Isn't there a chip for this or something like that was explained in the info Sony released? 7GB is still huge.

This isn't news.  We talked about it when they first announced the 8GB of RAM.

I remember some guys saying the OS will use 2-3GB.

Or eliminate loading times beyond start up. Skyrim was only a 3.8gb install on 360. Even with the 5.5gb install of the ps3 version copied in memory, there's still almost 4 times the memory left that the ps3 version had available run time.

Filling 7GB with super quality textures will probably do the opposite, long long load times.
Although using 3GB for super quality textures should be enough for 1080p, and the rest can be used to keep reading data into memory in the background. Copy all the important parts in memory and accessing menus, maps, nearby inside areas can all be instant. No more hesitating before going into a door in fear of another load screen.

I was playing Sleeping Dogs on PC in the last few days (really great game!) and I've done some seriously weird open world things, and I was like, heck, a totally should post this on youtube, but I wasn't recording it. I can see the PS4 really catches on. So that OS will be great. Of course 1 GB is probably enough, considering that Miiverse using the same amount, as far as I know.

And that is, sir, what Mark Cerny was talking about. If they really do that, It will be awesome!

There a ton of things to do with more memory... even put more destructives things in FPS, or bigger maps, or more players, etc.

Destructibility should be standard for FPS/TPS games, just like physics. I mean Red Faction had that in 2002!
