Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is done!...not really, at least not yet.

Despite the fact that some big western developers are turning their backs on Nintendo consoles, 3DS included no matter its install base, the way the market see Nintendo is started to change in its favor.

Don't get me wrong, i still think Nintendo needs to get more Wii U and 3DS propaganda, but the fact that we haven't heard about what they are doing make me think they are working hard in all the aspects they can change. Everything will be decided by the next Nintendo Direct.

For the mean time, it seems that everything Nintendo does sooner or later pay them back:

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2013-04-09/japanese-stocks-rise-as-yen-falls-to-three-year-low-against-euro

Despite all the doom and gloom surrounding the Wii U console, Nintendo’s stock rose considerably. This too is in the face of the Japanese yen reaching a three-year low against the Euro currency.

According to BusinessWeek, Nintendo, which depends on Europe for one-third of its sales, saw it’s stock soar by 11 percent to 11,850 Yen. This is the stock’s biggest gain since 2008, surprisingly enough.

Given all the criticism that has surrounded the Wii U, with developers and analysts suggesting a price drop but Nintendo steadfastly refusing, one may wonder whether any of it is warranted. Of course, stock market prices aren’t always the best indicator for success. Even Facebook had some pretty high prices when it went public. And we know how that turned out.

Nonetheless, the Wii U is a completely different beast in a completely different market. With the next Xbox and PlayStation 4 on the horizon, it remains to be seen whether Nintendo can step up and deliver with its games when the next generation is fully upon us.

If Nintendo post profits this last fiscal year, even though they will post operating lost, they position themselves in the right path. It is just up to them, if they can't bring it on starting now, they will probably loose the fight without even trying.

That's because when the Yen goes down, export returns are higher.

Also, this is their biggest gain since 2008 (12.5%), but the stock is at 14.97 while in 2008 it was (at its worse) at 35.10 and (at its best) 72.50.

Nintendo is most cetainyl not "done". Anyone who is capable of rational thought without hasty jerk off can realise that. You dont measure a console's sucess in a few months, you judge in years.
Have people learned nothing with the PS3?

What with the next nintendo direct will decide everything and you dont know what they are doing?! They already told you. They are Working on super smash brothers, 2 new zeldas, X, Fire emblem x SMT, new mario kart, new 3D mario and they will show them at E3 in playable form. What exactly do you want another Nintendo direct for?

Do not think of the now, think of the future. The Wii U is not competing directly with the PS3/360 in the long term. Its competing with the PS4/X720. Those consoles have no installed base yet and will launch at the price of 400-500 dollars/euros, while the Wii U will be sold at half the price with the popular Nintendo games.
Will it have all the 3rd party support? No, american developers made sure to make that impossible. Will it sell well and be profitable in 1-2 years? Yes, it most cetainly will cause it will catch the casuals before the other 2 new systems drop in price.

Seriously, learn to read the future in a logical way.

Confusing title and post. You are saying Nintendo is not done?

@bold. No a lot of people were very optimistic about the Wii very early on, and indeed it went on to sell very well. Sometimes you can judge a console's success early on. Even the PS3's "success" is highly relative, and early concerns were justified in that Sony _considerably_ lost its market hold this generation, that is a huge defeat.

I agree with the sentiment of your post, but everything you point at in the next ND gives hope for a very successful Nintendo against PS4/720. Nintendo doesn't need 3rd parties anymore.

I don't mean Nintendo to provide information about new games, but the dates of games they announced on the January's Nintendo Direct. It doesn't matter if they have 50 games in the pipeline, it is already 5 months after release.

I don't care if Nintendo wins the next generation, I just want them to profit so they can keep developing games. Look at XBOX360 and PS3, they are selling well but at what cost? the gaming division of their companies lost money for around 3 - 4 years, that bussiness is not right.

And yes, third party support won't change this gen. Everything you said I knew. It is just people like to doom things that easy.
