I think it's safe to believe a statement from SCE.

There is no PR from SCE... sorry.

You sound like one of those people who refused to people that PSASBR was launching with 20 characters just because there was no Sony PR - just a statement from the PS blog manager.

Sony docs said the shipped are for PS3 + PS2... and Sony never did a press release about the stop of the production of PS2... there are rumors about Japan but even Sony never confirmed that.

In fact there are evidences from Sony that PS2 is being producted yet.

They don't have a press release for the acquisition of Media Molecule or Gaikai either. I guess that means that never happened...

Where did you think the site copy the text of the Press Releases?

lol

I can't trust the media molecule one - it's not on the Sony.net website. Same as you.

I hope the one I read from Gaf is true that they are separating the PSP and Vita. I also hope for the PS2 and PS3 as well.

Few more hours to go.

Really? I hope so... that will make the comparison a lot easy.

Yes, JVM from gamasutra mentioned it.

It will be sad for Vita because PSP will show bigger numbers but it will be great for PS3.

Oh, the US website? MM is part of SCEE. Sorry - I can only accept PR from the corporate website. Statements or comments from anything else - like Sony executives, SCE community managers, Shuhei Yoshida, interviews to gaming media outlets - none of them are believable.

Am I doing it right?

While the evidence provided for the end of production isn't absolutely concrete. It never the less is probably the truth. After all Sony has finite manufacturing capacity, and if they intend to build the console in house. They will need to make room, and since the PS3 is still selling fairly well. The console that is selling the poorest, and quite frankly is holding back modernization efforts would probably have to go to make room.

This was in Japan based in a article with no word coming from Sony... just The Guardian assuptiom... so fake.

Last real words about PS2.

"JR: Typically history can help us only so far here. We’re actually still selling PS2s in regions such as the Middle East seven years after we introduced PS3. There are a number of reasons why the transition might be a bit more accelerated this time round, but PS3 is a very important part of our portfolio, certainly in 2013, 2014 and probably beyond that."

Selling PS2s is not the same as producing PS2s.

And, you're wrong, there is a source:

Update: Wiping a tear from its eye, SCE offered us this statement:

Due to PlayStation 2 now being over 12 years old, we have decided to stop future production of the console and focus on our newer and more popular platforms, PS3, PS Move and PS Vita. We are very proud of what we have achieved with PS2. Having sold over 150m units worldwide, PlayStation 2 remains the world's best selling console, but with sales understandably declining, we are shifting our priorities to reflect this.

Might be true for Japan, but no official word on WW shipments/ sales. If PS2 shipments stopped then I guess PS3 shipments are indeed very high.

No. Show me any official PR like I did and I will believe in you.
