The fewer XBox's MS sells, the better for the company as a whole.

How so?

My comment is really just poorly communicated sarcasm.  Any rumors about NextBox have 0 impact on MS share price.  But if we took my comment serious for a moment, XBox has been nothing but a money suck for MS financially for over a decade now.  It has a benifitial role for MS - keeping living room Windows competitors at bay - but as its own entity it doesn't make money.  If 'XBox' was a company, it would have gone bankrupt long ago.

Well goodbye MS and Sony then.   We would only have Nintendo left :(.  Anyway Xbox 360 was not in the end protiftable?

XBox 360 has had profitable years as of late, but it didn't make up for the early losses, and when you consider the original XBox and the time value of money, the XBox project initiative may never make money in and of itself. But it has other benefits to MS as a whole, and is probably worth the investment.

And yes, Playstation isn't a great project either, especially the PS3. Not as bad as XBox, but not great.

The below-cost console model is terrible, but it's how those companies could push their way into the market.

lol games analysts pretending to know what they're talking about. xbox division is responsible for like 3% of MS revenue

Lets reserve that to MS, if they execute the 720 launch and lifecycle in the right way they sure as hell can get the Xbox name to be profitable, I would say that around 3-4b pure profit has to come out of 720 and Xbox will be in the black. As I said the Xbox has always been a part of the EDD division which clouds your judgement about how much they lost on Xbox alone.

Again, we need to compare it to Microsoft's competitors and the general raise of the stock indexes.

It's really only Nintendo themselves (and the third parties, of course) whose stock can at all reflect what they do in gaming.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Just read it and if this is a global initiative then Microsoft may have a big card on their hand against Sony and Nintendo.  Sure it's not gaming related but it sure is living-room related and anything that could help the living-room experience to get better is only a big plus for the consumers.

Last time I checked its just forum warriors bitching about MS. Come the Nextbox announcement, stock should reach an all time high for the last few months.

Meanwhile, Apple stock is nearly 20x that of microsoft.

April has been good to ms.
