I think Greece would be a great setting, Drake looking for Troy could be cool.

great wall of China, tombs/pyramids in Egypt, North America, Japan, Atlantis... plenty of places he could go, I'd rather it be a surprise

God of treasure?
Home.
I think the franchise has run its course, Naughty Dog should create a new IP for next generation. They should continue it on the Vita if they can though.

Shame. Don't wanna play Tomb Raider =
Well, one thing I'd like to see is China, because that's the easy choice: Marco Polo, Great Wall, big beautiful lands, and a lot of ancient places to go, and you still have Hong Kong for city gameplay.
But what would get me exicted? Africa! Kilimanjaro, blood diamonds, big waterfalls, elephant riding, black magic from the natives, and some monster created by them. PS4 would be let you do big open spaces!
But if you want snow again, Russia is pretty much underused, and their Rasputin mythos is really intresting, Saint Petersburg is a magnificent location, there are a lot of russian soldiers to shoot, and we could get other european locations at the beginning, like a Monte Carlo scene. And at the end Rasputin would rise from the ashes, so the supernatural element would be there too.
Just don't look for an ancient city. That has been done 3 times out of 4. Yeah and no globetrotting. By the end of the first few chapters, get at least near to the location, what you looking for, just like in 1 and 2, so it will feels like a journey. And be long, I mean, no spoilers, but UC3 was too short compared to UC2.

How does a franchise like that run its course when it has never set a course to begin or end? I can understand God of War, but Uncharted has literally a stated no final mission for Drake. We're just following him on mythological travels.

Why not? Anniversary was good.

Troy has already been found by Heinrich Schliemann.
