The nail in the coffin for the Wii..? Too late, that was buried a while back.

A $99 for X360? Wow! Awesome, would get one without a doubt to play GoW, Halo, Alan Wake, Fable and those couple jRPGs.
X-box Live subscriptions as an argument for now moving to Sony? LOL!! If anything this is an argument to move as fast as possible. You're gonna pay as much as for Live for PS+ and get PS3/PSVita/PSP and quite soon PS4 games! I would find it hard to move from Sony to MS and lose all those PS+ games, but when you ditch MS you lose nothing and only gain free games.
Wii U is in a league of its own. It only competes with itself right now and so far it's losing. It has to establish itself as the second console everyone should have on top of a PS4 or X720, just like the Wii did. They need to get into this spot, where nothing that the competition does with PS360 or PS4/X720 makes any difference to them. And I think it's going to be hard but it's not impossible, they have to release the good-old faithful N games and add many more core exclusives like ZombiU, LEGO and Bayo 2. And cut the price to a reasonable $250 for the Deluxe SKU, which should be the only one on the market.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/
My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.
If that's true I might consider replacing my old 2008 Elite for it, especially since I currently have no internet connection on my 360. If they call it the Xbox 360 Mini, its a day one buy for me.
If this is true I think it will have more of an impact on the next Xbox sales then the Wii U.
The more I think about it, the better it sounds. If they really go as low as to $99, I would probably have no problem to finally convince my best friend to getting this console (he's a PC only gamer). We could finally play together. Though then again... The Live subscription... Nah, I guess I won't be able to sell that. Better wait for a big PS3 price cut. This whole Live really beats the idea of X360 ever being a cheap console.

Assuming there is a $499. That seems too high.
$299 - $399 models is the way to go. They can recoup losses with Xbox Live and it would be difficult for PS4 to compete.
I imagine we'll see the $99* subscription again. Even if MS charges people who take advantage of that over $500, that's only about $20 a month for two years. Easy to swallow payments.

I doubt we'll see a $99 XBox without a forced subscription. It think we will see a $500 XBox720 and PS4. Cheap PS360 are already impacting WiiU but that effect will go down as the number of AAA games decline, and the number of unique experiences on WiiU increases. The price of PS4/720 will probably be a very good thing for Wii U.

Microsoft is building an Xbox set-top box. Multiple sources familiar with Redmond's plans have confirmed to The Verge that the company plans to introduce a low-cost alternative to its Xbox console, designed to provide access to core entertainment services. The move will allow Microsoft to further increase its presence in the living room, providing consumers with a choice between a set-top box or a full next-generation Xbox console.
We're told that the set-top box is part of a two-SKU strategy for Microsoft's next-generation of Xbox hardware that will be unveiled in 2013, with a release date ahead of the holiday shopping season. The device will run on the core components of Windows 8 and support casual gaming titles rather than full Xbox games typically found on a dedicated console. Although hardware specifications aren't fully locked down, we understand Microsoft will use a chipset to enable an "always on" device that boots quickly and resumes to provide near-instant access to TV and entertainment services.
Microsoft's Xbox platform for all types of devices
Microsoft's Xbox set-top box work is said to be part of a broader effort to ensure its core architecture for the next-generation Xbox is scalable enough to be put together to run on a number of devices. We understand that the company could opt to combine its core system for the next Xbox with a phone stack to deliver a phone capable of running a full version of Microsoft's Xbox Live services. It has also investigated providing this functionality to TV OEMs, who could include the core services as part of a licensed Xbox television set.
We reached out to Microsoft for comment on its Xbox set-top box plans and the company issued the following statement:
"Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend the console lifecycle by introducing controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention."
Is this what they're talking about??

$99 isn't too cheap. Especially if this is another redesign along with it. The 360 has not had a price cut in almost 5 years and is making massive profits per unit sold. Even the $199 4GB core version is making over $100 profit at this point.

I agree, If I were to buy one, it would be to play offline, and without a subscription of any kind. (I abhor contracts)
