Forums - Nintendo - New $99.99 XBox 360 (Stingray) Coming This Fall? Implications For Wii U?

Nintendo games.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

If it's the 4gb, then I'll pass. I'm waiting for the 250 GB model to drop in price to at least $199.99 then i'll bite so I can finish Vesperia and Alan Wake.

1. You could buy a $99 4gb Xbox and order a HDD online.

http://www.amazon.com/250GB-Internal-Drive-Xbox360-Games/dp/B008TP1OKI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1365373253&sr=8-2&keywords=hdd+drive+360

2. If you just want to play a few exclusives, why do you need the HDD? A 32gb USB memory stick might be all the storage you need.

Thanks, I might look at buying that Hard drive then. And I like to use the install option on the 360 for load times and the noise factor with the disc drive. Plus I like to have the option to buy DLC or movies etc.

Both Sony and Microsoft have completely lost the plot if the 720's retail price is true. I can see a Wii U $50 price cut coming soon which will leave the Wii U being $250/300, the PS4 being $450/500 and the 720 being $500.

With a few more 'hardcore' Bayonetta 2-esque exclusives revealed at E3 Nintendo could make a killing.

Forget about the $99 360, the biggest news is yet more talk of always online and a ridiculous pricepoint for the 720.

We could end up seeing the Basic Wii U being half the price of the 720 and the PS4 not being too far off it as well (by my guesstimations).

Xbox wont sell much more honestly, its in the final stage, top games wont be coming in 2014. Unlike WiiU, which has a bright future from 2014 on.

3rd parties will support 360 and PS3 for at least 2 more years.

Which in turn will make the Xbox 720 and PS4 an even harder sell for the mass market, only offering enhanced visuals and greater graphics with no incentive whatsoever to transtion from current gen to the next as backward compatibility will not be featured.

Isn't stingray that rumored system that is all live services and only plays download titles or something?

There's nothing the competition can do anymore to screw the Wii U, because Nintendo's console sells in such insignificant numbers. Any potential rise of the Wii U rests on the shoulders of exclusive software, so an affordable 360/PS3/Nextbox/PS4 isn't going to change anything.

I think it would really, really badly damage the Wii U with the kids/family market Nintendo usually leans on.

The price gap for similar-ish hardware and the 360 having the advantage on the software side would be ridiculously lop sided.

Really?.. omg does this new stingray xbox 360 play nintendo games? .. no?.. then how do you suppose it could damage the wiiu?

you may say third party games.. but wiiu third party games already insignificant.. now what?

Well lets see here. Lets say I'm a parent. I bust my ass at work every day to provide for my family. I have some young kids, the wifey tells me to go get them a game console as a birthday/Christmas gift.

Looking at Best Buy.com for 2 minutes to see their retail prices + factoring in a $99.99 XBox 360 ... I can get

XBox 360 Console - $99.99 (lets assume this rumor is true)

Lego Star Wars Collection - $19.99

Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 - $19.99

Soul Calibur V - $19.99 (good for two boys)

Viva Pinata - $14.99

Skylanders (Starter Pack w/3 figures + base) - $74.99

Total - $250

Can't even get a basic Wii U for that. Explain to that parent why they should get a $300 Wii U instead. Good luck. Skylanders is the *hot* game right now for kids too, not any Nintendo property.

Daddy gets this, and the kids are very happy, the mom's happy too that you didn't spend an arm and a leg.

Wow! Good points, by the way, I think you should work in marketing.

Plus it would be nice to see Viva Pinata make a comeback.  I had kids recently tell me they liked it even more than minecraft.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

This.

Also, even if the power of the consoles is about the same a casual will judge in terms of new console vs. 7 years old.

Exactly!.. ms/sony fans cant understand this and always think it only affects the wiiu.. lol

I believe this is the reason why Nintendo dont care much about the wii.. they need to kill it for the wiiu to sell.

People who use PS360 as their main consoles will more than likely get a PS4/NextBox as their main consoles and Wii U as a secondary console. People who don't own a PS360 or Wii U and they're not a die hard Nintendo fan will more than likely go towards the console that is cheaper, has a large library, and still has games coming out for it.

The Wii U is marginally more powerful than the PS360, so third party games not on the PS4/NextBox, but on the Wii U, are more than likely also going to be on the PS360 because they're so similar in quality.

All Sony and Microsoft have to do is push promoting the large backlog of games on the PS360 for those that don't own the console. Paired with a lower price than the Wii U, I'd see most people going for the consoles with more games rather than the new console. There's a reason they probably don't own an HD console in the first place.
