Forums - Microsoft Discussion - More Details on Always-Online Xbox Revealed

Welp.

Around the Network

I didnt really plan on buying the nextbox (also because there is no info available lol) but being forced to have a constant internet connection (and maybe kinect 2.0 full body scanning your little children for pedobear parties) is a no go!

Seriously the MS dude is a douchebag.  I mean seriously? The last time we had a blackout was 4-6 years ago?  But there is constant internet problems or router resets or XBOX 360 NAT = STRICT problems or port forwarding etc.    The guy's comparison and behavior is arrogant/ignorant and totally stupid.

Who knows, maybe this negative publicity is specifically being released by MS. I mean, does this kind of news really deter people from purchases? It's not like people don't have lots of time to make up their mind... people are still talking about the new xbox, and then if none of these things are true, then nexbox will have gone way over expectations.

At least, that's how it looks to me.

LOL. Of course not.

Lol MS's creative director practically confirmed this. Or at the very least, heavily implying it.

Twitter

But my mobile phone still lets me play the apps and music I downloaded even if I have no internet or cell signal.

Yes, Always-On is a good thing AS LONG AS IT'S OPTIONAL. PS4 and Wii U will let you play games offline, why can't the next Xbox?

MICROSOFT WANTS YOU TO PAY FOR AN XBOX LIVE SUBSCRIPTION, THAT'S WHY.

"The mobile reception in the area I live in is spotty and unreliable. I will not buy a mobile phone"

Yes, that is VERY GOOD reason to not get a mobile phone or at the very least, look for another carrier if you get what I mean.

What a fucking douche.

This is hard to believe, just because it seems like such a stupid idea. I have no idea what they think the benefits are that outweigh all the obvious disadvantages.

Ugh, when are people going to stop spreading this rumor? It's a rumor and people supposedly having a Durango have said it does and other have said it doesn't.

It's a rumor. It's pointless to bicker or speculate about it. No, we don't know. Yes, nobody likes always-on.

To my knowledge, no one has denied this rumor. Referring back to the Kotaku article: http://kotaku.com/the-next-xbox-will-require-an-internet-connection-to-st-470062456

"That said, a caution and a caveat: other sources familiar with the codenamed Durango console have told us that they are still unaware of any Microsoft plans regarding an online requirement. No one has been able to say it's not true and some have speculated that this is required at the operating system level and therefore isn't something Microsoft has to tell all developers or retail partners. Microsoft also has the ability to change this type of requirement seemingly at a moment's notice through changes in firmware or networking infrastructure."

They're unaware because they're not there for them.  It could be because they don't have them yet, it could be because they're making stuff up, or it could be because they don't exist.

Again-- We.  Do.  Not.  Know.

If you want to wait for official confirmation, go ahead. We'll keep discussing the rumors that keep popping up over and over and over again.

Go re-read the Kotaku article and they mention that this was barely activated 2 weeks ago so its not that hard to believe developers aren't aware of it yet. This is a negative feature and Microsoft  probalby didn't find it releavnt to tell people so far in advance.

Another thing that is funny is this:

The idiot is comparing the nextbox with phones etc. But other than my phone NEEDING to be connected to actually receive and send texts/calls etc. The xbox needing a connection to play games makes no sense.

Its like saying Dear customer there is no toast in your toaster right now. Your TV will not work anymore.

WTF does the TV have to do with the toaster? Thats just arbitrary control shit. F U Microsoft.
