Forums - Gaming - Should Microsoft give up in Japan?

MS should be commended for putting up with the product-xenophobic Japanese public to make sure we could count on the best 3rd party Japanese games landing on on the Xbox and Xbox 360.

A to the f****** men. I don't like to argue on threads, specially the flaming ones but when I see some people in their bubbles spewing all kinds of nonsense over and over I just want to burst them. Xbox doesn't have a Tomb Raider Clone, Mario Kart Clone, Halo Clone, SSBB Clone, Wiimote Clone, Kinect Clone(PS4)... then why say it doesn't diversify in its library compared to the competition? Am I having a conversation with kids?

On the most recent Game Scoop on IGN they brought up the fact Xbox as a brand hasn't been able to get a foot hold in Japan. The 360 as it is now will sell less than the original Xbox over there. So after 10 years should they give up or keep trying? What do you guys/girls think?

Except it has already outsold threefold what the original xbox did. Besides, a good relation with japanese developers is always good for them.

And what ethomaz said.

No but they will still be irrelevant over there

I dont see them getting as much support next gen as they did this gen

Their only hope at being relevant is basically how successful PS4 is. If PS4 BOOMS(pricing it right) in japan then a lot of devs will flood those JRPGs in next gen format if that makes any sense. Then there will be more hopes that Square will bring stuff like Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest to the next gen. M$ could then try to snatch 1 of them up to release exclusively on 720 over there. It's very unlikely though

Their only way to success over there is pretty much through Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest

Yeah my bad. I got that from IGN, I should have fact checked that.

Should have added a poll.

No.

The 360 sold 3x as good as the original X-Box in Japan, and while 1.5 million isn't much, PS3 only got 8 million. If MS grows, even just by 50% that's still 2.25 million units it wouldn't have sold otherwise.

Plus Microsoft has big pockets and will publish games Sony and Nintendo might not (or at least they won't pay as much). This is why we saw games like Lost Odyssey, Shenmue 2 (localized), and Panzer Dragoon Orta.

Plus competition from MS, however small it is, will encourage Sony to make better JRPG's.

So I see no reason why MS should leave. They might not be making much profit, but it does add a couple million sales in Japan, and maybe even a million extra sales outside of Japan from people who have to have all JRPG's.

Yeah I a poll would have been good, didn't think about it at the time. I agree 100% with competition part, without competition companies get lazy with their product.

Yea, and I mean Lost Odyssey was a big X360 exclusive, without that Sony might not have made White Knight Chronicles.

Plus, MS has money, they will localize Japanese games (like Shenmue 2). Say for example in the future they make a multiconsole JRPG in Japan. We can be certain that MS will localize it, but Sony or Nintendo might not always do that. I mean we never saw Tales of Vesperia for PS3 get localized, and without Project Rainfall we probably wouldn't have seen XenoBlade.
