I am getting a lot of error codes when doing stuff on the WiiU that requires the internet. Sometimes it connects, fine, but often it doesn't. I don't have the same issue with my X360, PC or phone. Is this a common problem with the WiiU?

Nope, I can't say I have ever had any trouble connecting to the Internet on Wii U or 3DS. Although I have both manually connected, along with my phones and PCs.
When things auto-connect, sometimes there is weird IP conflicts.
Hope that helps a little.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I dont think its a common problem since nobody I know has anything like that me neither.
Well let me rephrase it Might be a "shitty" router/moden. Cheap routers/modems usually have problems with port forwarding etc. They seem to block Nintendo ports and bluray players AV Receivers and HDTVs etc....
My 3ds and Wii had problems with my router (was a cheap ISP one) 3ds had error code 006-0612 etc. Once I was able to master the super crappy sofware inside the router and found out what to do everything worked like a charm.
Did you google the error codes? I am pretty sure its port blocking.

Thnaks for the replies. My internet is Wifi broadband, based in the UK and supplied by Sky if that's of any relevance.
I never had any real problem with the WiiU internet connection. I do have some problems with the connection itself, because in my country internet providers are just s**t, and sometimes I just can´t play online or simply open the e-shop, but never found, so far, any problem related to the console itself.

No problems here, the only online service that has ever failed for me was Wii Chat, just once.
I do recall that with the Wii, Nintendo made some recommendations about changing the channel your router is using if you had any connection issues. I'd look into that because that's a pretty easy fix if that's the problem.

If it's by sky, is it a netgear router?
If so what encryption type are you using?

Reminded me of this:

You know, we used to outsource this kind of thing. But what we found was that the countries we outsourced to had unreliable power grids, very third world. Sometimes you'd turn on a switch and the power wouldn't come on for hours. Then tempers would get short. People would resort to things like pulling fingernails... acid drops on bare skin... the whole exercise would become counterproductive. But here, the power is stable. Here you get a nice, even flow... here you can throw a switch and the power stays on all day. Where is she?
