Forums - Sales Discussion - Monster Hunter 3 has Wii U sales rocket in Europe

It's good something moved, but considering the console costs 199 Euro now and it got a new game with yet another one coming next week, this result is going to be awful anyway. Doubling the sales in a couple of countries really isn't impressive. When Vita got it's cut (which was actually smaller than what Wii U experiences now), the sales grew over 600% without a single new game released and they grew even more the second week, when Sony released a game. I don't think anything can save the Wii U at least until Christmas or Q1 2014 and the real big games.

I have been thinking about it recently and I think that I will buy a Wii U once it gets a new Zelda (not just the remake), Metroid Prime, X and Bayo 2 and I'll find a SKU with at least 32 GB for 199 or cheaper, even if that means I'm going to buy it before I get a PS4 - even though I was planning to buy Wii U as the second console.

Haters are gonna hate no matter what... I won't waste my time explaining how the price cut came along with more games than the rest of the couple upcoming months for the Vita...

Good try, though, I'm just going to enjoy so much when Nintendo starts releasing games! ;D

Naturally, sales are still nothing to write home about, but in any case it's a good development if even a small niche title, what Monster Hunter is in Europe, can make any kind of notable sales increase. Next week will be even better with LEGO I reckon. Bodes well for when the actual system sellers finally hit the system.

I'd like to know where you buy your hardware because in reality it's still in the 299-349 pricerange. Here and there some retailers slashed a couple Euro off but I haven't seen anything over 30.

I've seen numerous links to German Amazon with such incredible offers for the Basic Wii U. That price is so crazy that it actually made me consider getting it, but I really don't want to be stuck with just 8 GB.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Please don't waste anyones time. The price cut didn't come with a single new game getting released. The first game came a week later - just as I've written. I'm not a hater - just giving you a little reality check.

So what are the final numbers like? It's not hard to double the sales on like, one unit sold.

There's a great website for this, it's called www.vgchartz.com.

If you go there, you see that WiiU increased from 27,596 to 59,311. If you exclude Japan (which didn't see the release) then it increased from 18,613 to 48,500

Everyone who knows anything about this industry knows that software sells hardware.

Wii U had no compelling software, now it does, logically there's going to be a sales bump. And if MH, a niche title outside Japan, can cause a bump, think what a high profile Nintendo franchise like Smash Bros will do. (If they ever fucking arrive. At this rate I'll be buying them with my retirement benefits, and I'm 24)

I don't know about France (Which saw a spike) but the UK had major price cuts which are far more likely why the Wii U sales spiked. The Zombi-U premium Wii U bundle was £199.99 at the HMV stores all closing down - to give you some perspective since that offers gone now you can get the premium Wii U with NSMB for £265. Pretty much a 25% price cut.

The offers a lot harder to find now and that LEGO game is out soon (or now?) in the UK so we'll see if that can keep the spike or if sales go down I guess.

Gah! enough already with the fake april fools joke threads..

I think I'd buy that bundle if it was available here. Great offer, that's the regular price Wii U should be at.
