Question for someone who has read the books:

The plot summaries for the remaining books I have found, indicates just a lot of death and destruction and betrayal. I could watch last season because, alongside that, there was some good Tyrion or Robb or Dany moments where the 'right' thing happened, if only for a short time, and there was comedy. Is my reading wrong?

A Song of Ice and Fire has all the emotions and thoughts of the human experience.  The main plot points are just the surface as it is the characters and their personalities and interaction within this complex world that make it such a joy.  It is a dark world that is often unforgiving, but that is what makes it feel real and the victories feel so earned.

I'm looking for a factual answer. Semi-in-universe mysticism is not helpful.

How much can I say about future books in a non spoiler thread?

Everything you read happens and if you think plot summaries are all that matters then fine.  If characterization through dialog and nuance interest you then you have to read for deeper appreciation.  People die. They die in every book.  The notion of discarding the rest as "semi-in-universe mysticism" then that is your lost.

This season will be 10 episodes like the others, right?

Yes, and you can see episode titles here

Warning, titles might be mild spoilers.

Will Varys ever appear this season? I can not remember if he was in the book lol (he very likely was...). He was such a prominent role last season and now two episodes and one preview in he is nowhere to be found

In Storm of Swords, he interacts with Tyrion quite a bit, helping him sneak around with Shea which makes his later testimony at Tyrion's trial shocking.

Now I do not know what to think. Is this the official thread or is the other one the official thread?

Man-bear-pig made a GoT thread, this is the one for third season. But probably you're right, we should stick to just one, and let this one be the definite official one ;)

Waaa, this season is going to be awesome! I'm starting to love the Tyrells, and Bran and the kid from Love Actually, I'm very hyped.

I guess it really sucks for the people that have already read the books, fortunately I'm watching first - reading later. It might not work, as those books do hook you, if I wasn't so busy, I guessed I would've messed my plan.

Anyways, tagging this thread, and waiting for some awesomeness.

Just found a new game of thrones vid asking the cast memebers on who should sit on the throne. It was pretty cool to find out there opinions.

I think Daenerys deserves it the most. She's from the line of Targaryens who ruled for so long, she didn't inherit her father's madness (Viserys did, that asshole), she's a brillant tactician, she has good values and would make a great queen, firm but just.

Everything has been slow since it started, haven't seen much of Jon Snow wich is my favorite Character, but I'm so happy that Theon is being tortured. LOL.

It was a very good episode, and I reckon they are speeding up the pace. Next episode it's going to be awesome.

Lol at the Pod scene. XD "copious details"

Agreed. Dying for the next episode already!!

Omg, I loved this latest episode! :D

I watched the preview, but I really have no idea what to expect from the next episode, I'm certain daenerys has something planned but I think she'll order her new troops to attack the slave leader to retake her dragon (not very original, but I'm pretty sure how it'll go down :P).
