Forums - Nintendo - We shouldn't be angry at Nintendo

Nintendo systems have never been my main systems. I was a SEGA fanboy while they were around, but even then i bought the playstation aswell. With SEGA gone, Nintendo became my second choice, but one i dearly enjoy.

Nintendo systems make sense for their exclusives, thats always been the appeal. Even in the mega drive days the SNES wasnt famous for their multiplatform 3rd party stuff, but the exclusives.

The Wii U has a definitve bonus, wich is beeing backwards compatible. That is great for someone like me that skiped the Wii because of motion controls.

I kind of feel the same as you. I was a Sega kid for the most part, but after I got a Gameboy I fell in love with Nintendo too. Sega and Nintendo had so much to offer. I still had a Playstation for games like Metal Gear Solid, FF7, etc. Then when Sega dropped out of the hardware business I kind of found in MS what I loved about Sega. The Xbox 360 felt like a Dreamcast 2.

I buy Nintendo systems mainly for Nintendo games. With each generation I buy less 3rd party games for my Nintendo systems.

Yes you can get angry at nintendo for not getting third party support because iirc they promised lots of it at the past E3's.....

1 - " The Gamecube was the most powerful console at the time, yet it failed." no, the Xbox was, by a large margin.
2 - The GCN had mini 1.4 GB disks while the PS2 & Xbox had full size DVD's holding several times as much data, meaning video, audio, & textures for large games needed to be aggressively compressed resulting in muddy looking ports.
3 - The console looked like Barneys lunch box.
4 - The system had virtually no online, while the Xbox & PS2 had online gaming as a strong selling point.

I love the Gamecube, but to say it was a perfect system for 3rd party games & it only failed to sell well because it had the Nintendo name on it is disingenuous.

Makes sense.

Nintendo consoles as a Nintendo box. Not like you'll ever buy anything else on it.

What's the point of Nintendo staying in the console business?

They're barely making money off the console itself, and they're not getting 3'rd party support from which they could extract royalties from.

The answer is in your post: In their console they don't have to pay royalties to anybody else.

Right now I'm equally furious, and in love with Nintendo.

On one hand, they are leaving Wii U owners dry, not letting us even have a sip from their sacred teat.

On the other hand, they are giving me some of the best Nintendo games I've ever played on the 3DS. Fire Emblem rocked my world, and Luigi's Mansion is just so good. In a 2 month period they released what are now my 2 favorite 3DS games, and more is on the way.

No the Xbox was more powerful. You're right on everything else though lol.

Some of it is Nintendo to blame

Some of it is the industry to blame

But to say you can't be angry over some of Nintendo's decisions is kinda meh.

If making money off a console is an indication of whether or not you should stay in the business, then Microsoft and Sony should have left a long time ago. Nintendo pays royalties to no one, and can make hardware choices that benefit their own software. That's why they make the hardware the way they do.
