There is a new idea every 5 minutes? LMAO name 1? And again Metacriutic means squat. That is not an argument. You cannot even name 1 innovative thing about mario galaxy, says it all.

So according to you rlogic sony is way better because they have more 8 and 9 rated games and less shovelware? BAck up what you say.

The biggest selling games right now are minecraft angry birds, yeah that alone kills op's argument. Nintendo fans are sure dillusional.

I think we look too differently at games to even argue about it. What I mean with new ideas, are gameplay ideas. The name GALAXY says it already. It does almost an unlimited new amount of gameplaymechanics with the use of gravity and jumping. That really is revolutionairy. Go look 1 video and the diversity in platforming with gravity and new power ups are just brilliantly done.

What I say is that you are in the minority when claiming Galaxy is boring and the same all over again. I don't say your opinion isn't true, it's your opinion. But if millions of other praise the game and you not, it means you think different then most people.

In your way of talking it is like you assume I don't like Sony... In fact I own a PS3 and have played many games on it. PS3 has many great games and overall more than Wii because Wii lacked third party support. Overall Nintendo exclusives are better in mine opinion and many others.

LOL Gravity and jumping has been done in so  many games too many to list............. Nothing else in the game is anywhere near revilutionary. it's just a really well done platformer, seems it's all nintendo can do these days.

Can you point out where I said Galaxy was boring and same all over? It however is nothing new it's the same simplistic design nintendo has stuck with since the earely ninties, it's the same reason they are being left behind.   Ps3 exclusives are better IMO, Demons Souls alone is better then anything on a nin tendo platform.

pls tell me ONE game where gravity was used so creativitly before galaxy. and it isn't even about the gravity alone. the level design was masterful. there wasn't one level that was similiar to another. the controls were perfect. THIS game pulled me back to nintendo after playing years on pc and xbox. that was 1,5 years ago. cause it showed me how fucking brilliant these guys still are. everything was so perfect. and the music, man, pure eargasm.

Half Life, Halif life's 2 gravity gun was more inventive then anything in galaxy, that changed shooters forever. Crysis to name 2 off my head. Not to mention dizens of indie games. A game in the 80's on Pc called alley cat and a bunch of other sused gravity please. The controls? That's your argument? Many games have perfect controls.  Many games have better music.....

Maybe you have not been gaming long but galaxy was just a polished platformer.

Dark Souls, demons souls have way better level design it's one fully connected massive world. Many games have better level design. It's another overrated nintendo relic. Ocarina of time was amazing, it deserves it's accolades, galaxy was massively overrated.

lol you compare the gravity gun to the gravity from galaxy? seriously. pls go home. you compare the level design from dark souls to that from galaxy? these are totally different genres. when i say level design i mean how the levels are structured and the ideas that get involved in a level. not how they are connected. you are just plane hating on galaxy cause it has nintendo on it. btw crysis launched few days later then galaxy. how stupid people can be. blind hating doesn't get you anywhere. indie games weren't that popular at the time. you wanna know what the magic behind the gravity in galaxy is? they made it so that you don't get fucking confused when you run around several planet like structures. alone that is  amazin work. this was never done so good in a platformer before. you cans ay what you want lol

HUH? Befoe halif life there was no destruction nor manipulation of any games physis, levels, Half life changed that forever, galaxy didn't change anything.

Since when does a game being different genres mean anything? The level design in Dark Souls was infinitely more complex then galaxy being a platformer.

Where was I hating? Gamaxy is a great platformer, I just said it is not revilutionary nor is it.

Since when does popularity have to do with anything?

Thatnks for calling me stupid, a few days LMAO, you realise games take years to make right so neither game  had any influence on the other right??

gameplay is the best its been in any generation imo

That's your opinion of course, but it's also a very strong statement to make, considering the fact that, for example, in the 8bit and 16bit generations, gameplay was generally the major focus, because while they were still gorgeous for their time (and compared to older polygon games still are), those classic games couldn't get all that elaborate with graphics or presentation, so (at least with the GOOD ones), they had to have a lot of substance. In my personal opinion, the best games from those generations trump anything that has come out since the PS1/N64 era began onwards. That certainly isn't to say that there haven't been some truly amazing, deep and fun to play 3D games. Of course there have. But I think overall, it's not even necissarily a matter of 2D vs. 3D, it's a matter of the more powerful consoles get, and the better graphics get, the more big developers especially raise their budgets and try (pointlessly) to be on par with big budget hollywood films, etc., that games have gotten further and further away from what made then fun and such a great passtime in the first place.

cause 3d-platformer are totally unpopular nowadays, that's why. name one 3d platformer the last 5 years that was as successful as galaxy saleswise. right, nothing. you just can't compare a overworld from a rpg to a fucking platformer, thats like comparing 2d platformer to final fantasy 3 overworld design. it's not the fucking same. why i am even argueing with you, you didn't even play galaxy seriously.

Cool down, th3pano and sentient. You've obviously brought up a lot of valid gameplay points

Funny since games are played because they are in fact fun. Look at the most popular games and tell me that they arent fun.  .  Maybe not to you but to most people they are.The bad ones are the ones that dont sell People just like graphics as well. Really not that hard to figure out.  Ever heard of the whole package?

Couldent put it better myself.

No, simply no. Gameplay is still king, you simply have poor selecting skills, and you end up with crappy ones If anything games became more fluid and dynamic than ever before

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Games are about the experience, which encompasses everything. People who complain about Battlefield 4 reveal, what did you expect from a military based FPS? Its no different from people complaing about 2D mario...

In terms of character and story telling, the demo did an inredible job in my opinion, partially because of the character rendering but also through the scripting. Maybe people are confusing their preference of fantasy, for a lack of quality in games with realistic graphics. I just recently played Dishonoured, Limbo, Journey... All brilliant, all with a clear focus on gameplay, all amazing visuals (not necessarily realism) as well as story telling. I believe most AAA titles weight these 3 things pretty well regardless of what you think of its actual quality.

DMC-
Tomb Raider-
Metal Gear Rising-
Bioshock-
AC3-

Which of these games didn't concern itself with gameplay and only graphics, or even which of these games were obviously weighted more on graphics? Like many people today I get tired of the barrage of war based games, especially FPS which by there nature aim for realism and so appear the same, but things were not so different with all the generic action adventure games released last gen, and then all the platformers the gen before.

I don't think gameplay has moved as far as it can this gen, but I think its down to a lack of ambition. Nothing to do with graphics. Luckily we're at the point where the public and media are starting to respond (Both GOW's). Its nice that your game is fun, but its the exact same thing we've been playing for the last 5 years. Also attention to visuals and story can actually make games feel more unique, we can't expect ground breaking gameplay innovations every other day of the week.

Well, this thread went down the toilet fast.

XD!! Omg this guy is comparing Half life to Galaxy. The direct reason not to take you seriously. Comparing a shooter with a gravity gun to a platformer in space XD this is the best day of my life.

Well, you know, Nintendo is still around. They still create games with great gameplay and a solid use of it. But maybe we aren't talking about Nintendo. As I well know, they are a "whole different ball game."

OK

Turn on Luigi's Mansion 2, Sticker Star, Metroid Other M, Zelda Skyward Sword, or Galaxy 2.

Is there any moment where there is more than one action you can usefully perform? Is there any moment where there isn't a giant flashing arrow telling you where to go next and every other path blocked? I'm not talking surprise, I'm talking user input making a difference.

Good GAMEPLAY is where you feel empowered to achieve something: rewarded for exploring, or figuring out something, or achieving something difficult with much practice.

Modern Nintendo games feel no different to modern AAA games that move you from one setpiece to the next along a narrow and highly visible path. Nintendo's path just has more wackiness and fewer explosions. At no time do YOU feel awesome. Nintendo asks you to go, isn't the DEVELOPER awesome?

On the contrary, Sticker Star was roundly criticized for not telling the player precisely what to do in order to progress.

There was only one useful action you could perform, that being the one you needed to proceed to the next story chunk.
