Forums - Gaming - Epic confirms: Unreal Engine 4 is NOT coming to Wii U

Retro has lost more talent than Rare did in the early 2000s.

There's basically no one at Retro left from the Metroid Prime 1 days.

Turn over is a part of the industry in the West.

Nintendo simply doesn't want anything to do with Western devs. There's only two or three that they really work with now, and that's to have them work on projects the Japanese side is too busy to work on (Luigi's Mansion 2, helping out with Mario Kart 7, Donkey Kong, Pilotwings, etc.).

They been hiring a lot of people lately. They also moved to a bigger place.

Well yes.....what else was going to happen? You can't make a pig fly no matter how hard you try. The WiiU specs obviously can't run Unreal 4 so yet again the Nintendo console will be stuck with Nintendo only games and few to no multiplatformers..

Nintendo refuses to work with the specifications third parties need and they were left out. Its their fault and Cliffy B told Sony and Microsoft what specs to use. They didnt even bother with Nintendo because they knew they wouldnt listen. Anyone who didnt see this coming..sad.

Nintendos western audience is about to get cut deep in half because of this. Some of the top games this gen were dependent upon the Unreal engine. Only hope for Nintendo now is to go casual.

Tell that to the iPhone 3GS, which received a port of UE3. It's certainly not about power, my friend, there's much more going on.

Following an Unreal Engine presentation at 2013's Game Developer Conference, Rein clarifies his response to IGN, still laughing, "I just laugh at the question...Unreal Engine 4, we're not PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, or Wii U. It's next-gen technology. That's what we're aiming for."

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.
Proud pre-orderer of 2 PS4's and an Xbox One.

Currently Playing: Dark Souls II, South Park
Playstation 4: MGS V GZ, Killzone: Shadow Fall, NBA 2k14.

Well, I suppose Unreal Engine 3 may have a bright future on Wii U then.

i loss even more respect for epic and mark rein, they can keep there crap away from the wiiu then and when the wiiu sells like i believe it will. then u will see epic retract there statements and make nice with nintendo.
also the unity engine is going to end up being the main engine for making games on the wiiu in the end for 3rd parties ,besides the unreal engine 3. also i am sure the games that monolith and retro will show that the wiiu can make great looking games without using the epic pos engines.

As unprofessional as the guy is being, this is hopefully the wake up call that Nintendo listen to.

When everyone laughs at you in the west clearly there are problems.

After all the money they made from Wii.

There are two solutions:
1. Realise 3rd party will never work for Nintendo, so create more studios to work for you to create new IP.
2. Moneyhat studios to do exclusive games.

In the long term talk to the heavy weights and see what hardware they need next gen after this one. Not sure if it would do any good though as gamecube and n64 were pretty powerful at the time of their releases.

Pretty much, Nintendo could be doing somthing in secret to fix the problem but until they show their solution they need this harshness.

Former something....

Is he saying because its underpowered or because they dont want to port it? Im confused as to what focusing on porting to PS4 and 720 means. He did say it was possible to port it before so i dont know what to believe anymore. Why are these articles never specific and to the point? Are the people asking the questions brain dead or something?

They should do both and make an engine specifically for the Wii U. They have the money to do it, if they don't then they are screwed.
