Perhaps jealous people trying to discredit notch?

I LOVE ICELAND!

Whats wrong with this generation of men? If I know women were paid to talk to me 2 things will happen:
1) If I'm married I will avoid them and problem solved.
2) If I'm single and they're hot, then it's going down.

Making a scandal out of this just show how immature those guys are on handling business. Bunch of woman hater. I bet if it was men that were paid we wouldn't have heard nothing like this.

These are the kinds of people who would rat out their hot teacher hitting on them in highschool. What's the problem? Enjoy yourselves...

I really don't understand. I was just at a Jameson event and there were girls paid to be there too! We are we pretending like videogames are some kind of huge offender? This happens everywhere.

Oh, man... don't get me started!

Had no idea this was a practice in gaming conferences too, especially in one that is more devoted to developers like GDC.

It's actually quite heartening to see the game industry confronting this.

See, I can understand someone feeling this way about the IGDA thing. Even though I'm not sure that was exactly sexist, it was pretty inappropriate for the setting because that group represents developers, including female ones.

But this was Mojang's private shindig. Notch is claiming they didn't pay anyone, and it's not inconceivable that girls who don't know or care anything about games would be there to see Skrillex or just to party. But even if they did pay them, so what? No one was harmed or "otherized" in front of her colleagues.

I agree that Mojang likely didn't do anything wrong here, just that the outrage still means we've dragged this issue out into the open. If they really didn't do anything wrong, no harm will come to them, but we make headway on an important problem.

On a related note, i also agree that the women at the IGDA thing hardly qualified as "scantily clad," but again, the positive undertones here is that the game industry is standing up and acknowledging something that's been a big problem for a while.

And what that problem might be?
