I understand that they are disappointed with the Wii U sales but to say that it launched without a strong first-party title I would disagree... If a Super Mario title is not classed as a strong first-party title I don't know what would be?!?

I'm sure we will be hearing from BenV over the coming months. The PS4 signup sheet is not the same as the Wii U pre-order list from last September. It just a mailing list on new information for the PS4 and in the event that gamestop will be taking orders, the company will let you know in an email.

And like gamestop, I feel that actual PS4 shipments will fall behind customer demand as the system will be attractively priced and will not be overshipped like the Wii U was.

Sony obviously didn't fix ALL the problems and issues the PS3 had.
Why had Microsoft the chance to do so good?
The 360 came 1 year earlier - The PS3 was to expensive while the 360 was cheap.The PS3 had an architecture where you needed to study rocket science for and most developers outside of Sonys inner circle didn't understand the console for a very long time.
1st Party of Sony didn't really push out interesting games cause they had problems and Sony lost a lot of 3rd Party to Microsoft cause they were easy to develop for and of course the cheaper console.The Online Service with the start of the FPS Console dominance were a lot better hit from/with the 360.
Why did the PS3 outsell the 360 for 6 years in a row now worldwide?Cause of the intense Price Cut.

Now lets look at the PS4
Its the easiest to develop for platform as 3rd Party is saying.All the 3rd Party is loving the PS4 and how Sony changed completely.
The price will be low - They won't release late.Probably before the NextBox.
They have 1st/2nd/3rd Party convinced and games ready and the Indie Scene is covered too since the last few days.
The Online System of the PS3 is right now superior to XboxLive and so it will more than likely continue.

Microsoft may be ahead of the PS4 in the USA but not with such a big gap this time and overall the PS4 will dominate the world pretty easily.

They say this stuff about every new console before launch. The price will determine how well the PS4 does, expect it to be high again.

it's already in the article, the wii u release was also great and exceeded the expectations (gamestop said they had 500k preorders for wii u). preordering doesn't tell much nowadays with electronics when people think they can resell it for more because the product will be sold out at release.

but i'm sure ps4 will do better the months after release.

So Gamestop talking up their prospects for the coming year for the purpose of investors, surprise!

The big advantage the PS4 has over the Wii U at the moment is that it is thriving on hype; it doesn't yet have to deal with the harsh realities of high price, supply issues, delayed launch games, launch 'teething' problems, highly competitive last gen products etc.

I 'intend' to buy a PS4 but if the price is too high, there is no material improvement in the games, or key game are lacking at launch then my intent could rapidly vanish.

but put this in perspective.  wiiU had a fantastic first 4 weeks on the market.  it was weeks 5 though XX that have been terrible.

vita had a fantatic first week sales too (bigger than 3DS) but again it didn't last into week 2.

this is probably decently accurate and it probably means some good numbers at launch.  that's a completely different statistic than what will happen in the subsequent weeks..
