Forums - Microsoft - Spartan Ops episodes in Halo 4 are better than the campaign

After finishing Episode 8 and with 2 episodes to go, I've realized that I enjoy these Spartan Ops mission based story chapters way more than the campaign. It's not that I hated Halo 4 campaigns, quite oposite actually, I liked it.

I am just finding that these Spartan Ops missions have better gameplay and more challenging set pieces, have better and more interesting story and are not as focused on being "polished" as the campaign which makes them less predictable...

With that in mind, could the future of single player/campaign content be episodic based? I definetly see this working for Halo...a lot like TV season of True Blood or Game of Thrones where over a years time span you get 6-8 episodes + multiplayer with the initial 60 dollar purchase, and then can buy other episodes as they come available or a seasons pass or similar... Makes total business sense too.

What do you guys think?

Hm..I shall not decide until kain offers his opinion.

I didnt know these were single player missions. I will have to check them out now.

I agree that single games work better in an "episodic" type release. With a first game, and than other "episodes" released to further the game in the same engine to save money. SC2 is kind of like that too. I dont mind that model as long as there is still good bang for your buck. I enjoy single player games more than multiplayer.

I agree.

The reason is that they used covenate more than they did Prometheans. Prometheans are horrible enimes. The story to halo 4 was great but fighting prometheans is tedious and annoying. I hope 343i has learned that and strays away from prometheans. Either that or make them more enjoyable enemies

lol, they are not that bad. i found them interesting at first but once you figure them out they do become kind of tedious to fight. cant beat the good old covenant...

I guess im happy if the campaign is offered as well as missions like Spartan ops. Both are fun and extend the enjoyable campaign experience. But i definetly see episodes becoming the "it" thing next gen.

Even though I have only beat the first 5 episodes of Spartan Ops, I will have to completely disagree. From what I've heard the last 5 episodes are better than the first, which is great, but it doesn't make up for the first 5 lackluster episodes. I shouldn't have to force myself to beat something. The only saving grace for Spartan Ops imo were the cgi videos, those were awesome.

Now the Halo 4 campaign on the other hand is epic throughout the entire play through, and I beat it several times including legendary solo. I don't play through something on the hardest difficulty unless I really enjoy that game.

Halo 4 campaign>>>>>>>>>spartan ops.

While you can play them single player, that's really not ideal. They play better cooperatively.

I disagree. The campaign was much better. Spartan Ops kept using the same maps and killing enemies was extremely repetitive and got a little boring. Also, the fact that you could die as much as you want made it less challenging.
