Regarding God of War vs God of War 2 that a couple people keep harping on, there is one main flaw in that reasoning in saying "end of the generation". God of War 2 literally launched AFTER the end of the generation. It came out in 2007. The PS3 came out in 2006. That is in no way shape or form comparable to Ascension launching before PS4 is even out. Not to mention it directly flies in the face of things a lot of you same people have been saying for months about how 2013 is the "year of the PS3" and all these "AAA" releases Sony has coming for PS3 just proves this generation isn't over yet. So to then turn around and use "end of the generation" as a crutch here is just silly. But the bottom line is you're comparing a game that literally came out after next gen had started with PS3, to a game that came out well before the PS3 is done. Hell, we don't even have a release date or price for PS4.

Secondly the manner in which these two games are being harped on would lead one to believe there is a massive difference in sales for the game and the fact of the matter is I did a quick Google search and only found two sales sources. One is from Sony themselves and as of June 2012 it shows God of War 2 less than 400k behind God of War. The other source is this place, which has lower numbers than the Sony numbers but generally the same result, less than 400k difference.

So as of last year, that is the difference. Less than 400k. Who knows what it is now. And that could be attributed to more bundles for GoW1 or GoW2 launching literally after next gen had begun for Playstation fans. Two things Ascension needs not worry about. Doesn't it have some ugly as hell red bundle? And the PS3 is still alive and kicking.

well at least you gave PS3 credit, but you have yet to acknowledge that it being a prequel or NOT being the last big hit on a system with an install base of 100m factors in at all.  Yes GoW3 had less of an install base but the story had one BIG conclusion to get to so that anyone who played the previous games REALLY wanted it.  Now that story is concluded.  People seeing PS4 come out say to themselves "I could spend $60 on a prequel when I concluded the story, or I could save that for PS4 or LoU (new story) or Beyond (new story)."  So you can see why it might sell less without people necessarily being "tired" of it.  GoW2 had the PS2 all to itself while GoWA has to share the load of a system that still has next gen hype effecting it, has to make its story seem relevant (which it is but after GoW3 you can see how people might avoid another game with the same story since it's concluded and this is not a continuation or new mythology), and is the second game on the PS3 in the franchise.  It's not any one of these factors that has made this game sell less than its predecessor, it's the cumulative effect of them.  You can jump to the conclusion that people are "tired" of the franchise, but that is completely jumping the gun.  So you can see there a lot of reasons that could have contributed to this decline, yet you jump to the most doom related one that the franchise is tired out (aka future games won't do well since according to you time makes no difference in the amount of sequels).

"done with the story" is just another way of saying they are tired of God of War imho. Plus every game released has big games to compete against. There are multiple factors. I simply think people are tired of the franchise.

Look at PSP. The first GoW game sold almost or over 4 million IIRC. The 2nd game on the system in the franchise sold less than half that. And that game came out after GoW3. So maybe after the story concluded people just decided they'd had enough.

take a look at MGS2 to 3 sales to see what I'm talking about with prequels.  MGS3 is my second favorite game ever, but its sales suffered and that was before PS3 was even announced.  There had been a game released on the console in the series, and that new game didn't continue the story.  MGS4 picked up the sales once again.  GoWA will still have some healthy sales.  GoW4 or whatever a spin off will be will most likely sell more however.  Just like Shadowfall will most likely pick up after the drop off from 3.

J-Allard: In some points i must give you right. One of the reasons why some people not buy God of War Ascension is because its a prequel. The story is already told. But i would not gone so far in saying People are tired of the franchsie or of Kartos because if an God of War 4 on PS4 will sell more than Ascension than wouldnt it make your argument invalid?

And do you really compare Ghost of Sparta sales to the ones with Chains of Olympos. The time when Ghost of Sparta arrive the PSP was already dying in the west. Many people sold there PSP because there arent games to play. Of course sales on a dying plattform will go down. So this is no argument.

ahh shame TR couldn't hold better,i hope it can have some legs,

it's a silly argument with GOW really but not bad sales for a hack and slasher

Yeah he left for another site a while ago, cant find the link, but im sure you can if you search for it.

Im guessing as the numbers are so far off, theyve just been using whatever formula he left behind, they really need to address the issue, or if they believe the numbers to be right at least come forward and talk about it. Alot of people are getting disallusioned.
