They won't make it in time man ^_^; AMD hasn't even shown similar designs in anyway. Maybe the next one, analysts that predict the 8th gen being the last gen are retarded because they have no idea how far ahead tech will be past the 2015 point.

tech will be far ahead. Graphics can only reach a certain point.

And trying to shove down someone's throat a dedicated gaming device that has next to no difference graphically, is gonna be a gargantuan task. You need other deferentiators. Like mobility. Thats why next consoles will be pseudo portable pieces of tech. Wii U is half a step on that direction already.

as Kasz216 said I am talking about a slim redesign maybe in 5 years time

I see, I think they won't do it just based on design principles, if you look at the PS3 super slim, even though they have tidied it up quiet a lot, it's more of a shrunk than a redesign and I'm not expecting them to introduce actual new tech for the PS4 once it's finalized hardware.

Its not actually something new, just a rearangement of components. Seeing as Sony used 2.5D stacking in the Vita its not that far fetched.

And I have to emphasize how much money could be saved, its Billions over years. And  it ensures pricecuts for all consumers.

Smaller and less complex motherboard smaller power supply smaller  boxes cheaper and less DDR3 modules.

Sony took out CPU GPU RAM in the PS3 within 12 months and changed the motherboard massively, they will take every possible way to cut production costs and the Ram is the most expensive part.

Sony will use it and probably planned that years ago. It makes no sense not to do it its probably part of the whole PS4 design philosophy from the start. GDDR5 seems like a temporary solution until 3D stacked Ram becomes a proven technology. Stacking Ram will replace all of Ram everywhere not just Graphicards but all devices, its the superior way to use ram. Its not a question of If but when Ram stacking becomes standard.

If they can make it cheap enough in time PS4 will have it and ofcourse everything else too. Not stacking Ram has no advantage (Unless your cooling sucks).

It'd actually be AMD's part to redesign the silicon to work in that way and come up with new cooling, they might do it for their newer videos cards but I don't think the APU configuration will change drastically in the next 5 years once the "fixed" hardware factor is in, that's just how consoles are and there is nothing wrong with that.

We already have mobility that looks great, but you can't get the immersion unless you have some kind of impact like the 3DS XL in full 3D(big difference compared to 1st gen 3DS in visual impact actually.) I think it'd work as a hybrid, something you can take portable and render the same quality of graphics in a lower resolution on a much smaller screen and once docked, would work with the more powerful docking and generate the visual in higher res, but they'd still be newer tech that's more powerful.

Very nice Nvidia.

I'm sure AMD will shortly have an announcement showcasing the same chart, but saying "we will charge less".

On a that note, I've been looking at benchamrks lately with latest drivers and AMD is destroying NVidia... card for card, dollar for dollar. Nvidia needs to lower some of those GPU prices already.

The new nvidia roadmap already has an arm architecture SoC comparable to the maxwell architecture. And that's crazy just to think that in a 4 to 5 years down the road tablets and cellphones will rival in visuals the latest gaming consoles. I also think the days of dedicated consoles with gimped niche OS's are ending. Look at Wii U sales. I don't think it is all fault of the line up and I doubt ps4 and nextbox will do any better with the likes od CoD and Assassins creed goodness on board.

The world is changing tech wise and we are in the middle of the storm.

yeah in the new beta drivers, I immediately saw performance increases across the board and not just the games listed, it's pretty interesting for sure.

It will be a fun ride for sure :D

Ofcourse they would need to redesign the Apu but didn't MS changed the Xenos and Xenon and made it a single chip. Whats stopping Sony to invest some Money into a redesign later if it saves them alot more money. Whats AMD stopping from doing it ?

Whats the reasoning behind not taking a chance to make money and get more marketshare if a redesign won't influence the older models. Its not supposed to increase performance of a PS4 just make it cheaper its basically still a fixed unchanged hardwaredesign on the outside.

Maybe AMD layed plans out already for that to happen eventually and is part of the deal made with Sony ? Also if AMD wants Apus to go anywhere they need stacking, the GPU parts in an Apu for a PC can't grow due to DDR3 limiting bigger APUs.

its all part of the plan from the beginning imo.

All those extra cores in AMD cards are finally doing something. :)
