Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today announced that SimCity™ recorded more than 1.1 million units sold through in the first two weeks, making this the biggest SimCity launch of all time. Gamers have logged on to SimCity via Origin in record numbers, with 44 percent of SimCity sales delivered via EA’s direct-to-consumer digital download service. SimCity gamers have also helped set new records for peak concurrent users on Origin, now at 1.3 million and rising.

In just two weeks:

Either the game is overtracked here or it's going to drop 90% next week :P

It may be a bit overtracked, but with all the bad publicity I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few people decided to delay their purchase until things get sorted out.

Pretty much saying this:

EA, even you you repeatedly screw us over we'll still buy your games.

I bought it when I found out I'd get a free game when they fixed the errors.

Interestingly enough, I didn't have any server issues personally.  But thanks for the free game EA. :)

Joystiq even gave them a whole section under "Network Status" on their page along with the usual XBL, PSN and Nintendo Network:

Does VGChartz track or estimate digital download sales on any of their games?

Cheers for the reply.

What's the best or most accurate way of estimating download copies. Say for ps3/360 or PC games. Is there any site that does this or do we need to wait for official shipment figures from the game company themselves. Like in this example^

I'm glad the pc master race is voting with their wallets against always online drm. /sarcasm
Even EA didn't think so many people would be OK with it, hence the overloaded server problems.

Do they offer a game even now to new customers? Or would it be too late to buy it now for a free game? ;o

OT: I expect a massive 2nd week drop because of the backlash from consumers and reviewers. Still seems like the retail sales could be around 70-120k overtracked or so.

Should be able to still do it. This is on the FAQ page

"As a token of our appreciation for all the support we’ve received from SimCity fans over the past week EA is offering a free EA PC digital download game to anyone who purchases and authenticates SimCity by March 25, 2013 at 11:59pm PDT."

Honestly, I was shocked I still got the game for free because all the issues seemed to clear up by the time I got it. Oh well..Dead Space 3 will be mine. :D

I bought it yesterday and got the free game as well. I chose BF3. Simcity is lonely :( I can't join anyones games.

First it says 54% were digital copies, then it says 44%, could you make up your mind 'cause I'm confused now.

Anyway, I really love this game despite the always online problems (which are now largly fixed). I would say it's the best SimCity to date. Like I've said before on these forums, people should stop whining and complaining about the drm, and just enjoy this game for what it has to offer (which is a lot).
