Forums - Gaming - WiiU or Vita will sell more in 2013?

2013 Winner?

Vita 255 40.09%

WiiU 284 44.65%

About Even 55 8.65%

Dreamcast 30 4.72%

Virtual Boy 12 1.89%

Total:636

I also went through to see what effect the 3D Mario and Mario Kart had on the 3DS, as well as the price cut.

3D Mario:

Japan-106% increase
Europe- 62% increase
USA- 35% increase

Mario Kart:

Japan- 77% increase
Europe- 17% increase
America- 34% increase

Price cut:

Japan- 5,146% increase
Europe- 296% increase
America- 301% increase

These games (including Zelda) and price-cuts were well-introduced in order to try and turn the tables with the sales figures. Nintendo seem to be hinting towards a similar (well, identical) scenario for the Wii U, so I don't see why it can't have a similar effect.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Wow. You guys really have no faith in the Vita if you actually believe that the Wii U is gonna outsell it this year.

I think WiiU, its gonna be very close. It all depends when they do a pricecut.

Ah, interesting thread, thanks. Would you be so nice to bump this thread at the end of the year? It would be great to see how the expectations turned out. I personally voted about even. I see both Sony and Nintendo working towards better sales, that will probably have similar effects.

yeah I'll try to remember to bump it

People seem to be assuming Sony will have nothing for E3 this year for Vita.  Soul Sacrifice, Tearaway, and Killzone aren't going to be the only games this year and the only reason we know all this stuff will be at E3 for Nintendo is because they had a direct in response to slow sales to basically announce their announcements.  Sony has a couple games but probably wants to hold back.  In the end it's not when you announce but when you release (this applies to PS4 and Nextbox too)

I'm sure Sony has some announcements planned for E3 (although that's what we thought last year as well), but they have nothing at all in their repertoire that can stand among Mario, Mario Kart, and Zelda -- except maybe Gran Turismo, but I don't think it can beat Nintendo's potential trifecta.

I won't deny that those games will have more selling power if they all release.  However if Vita gets a price cut at E3 or earlier for all regions I think Sony can have built up a good enough lead pre-holiday and have good enough BF bundles (if the system is $200 expect $150 bundles) to keep it even or stay ahead.  I think I'm in the minority thinking WiiU won't get a pricecut this year though.  Nintendo likes to make money on hardware and while they did cut the 3DS early the WiiU is already selling at a loss so they would be taking above a $50 hit on every system.  I'm not sure they're willing to make that kind of sacrifice especially if they know sales will be ok if they're releasing all those games this holiday.

Vita is selling pretty decent in Japan, and Wii U is selling like cold shit. Maybe GDC or E3 can push it but if it continues this way I say Vita will outsell the Wii U.

Vita will sell more in the short term, but by the end of the holiday season the Wii U will sell more.

Wii U, will sell ever so slightly more than the Vita (let's say 500k more) because of Mario Kart, 3D Mario, and Wind Waker.

Also I see a price cut coming which would boost the gap even further.

You think the Wii U will get a price cut and the Vita will not? It's only been cut $50 in one region.

Big retailers around the globe already discounted Vita back in November...actually Vita is alive thanks to retailers cutting prices for holiday season...

They introduced a discounted bundle and it sold very well. I don't see how you can use that as a bad thing. An official price drop will also lower the floor in which retailers will charge as they can lower the price while still retaining whatever margin they had. And the US is unlike the EU where retailers almost always stick the MSRP for consoles.
