Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation 4 represents possibly the single biggest leap seen in a console generation

I'm not seeing it. Hell the jump from PS2 to Xbox was even bigger. Killzone SF, gameplay looks just like current gen games, its just that set piece even at the end that looked impressive.

Crysis 3 PC gameplay also looks like current gen games, so whats your point.

Maybe in terms of pixels, teraflops, gigahertz, RAM, memory, [insert more technical jargon], etc. But it doesn't look like it at all, at least not with my eyes. Most of the games shown looked like super-polished PS3 games, for the videos that actually showed gameplay. I guess that's one effect when graphics become so good that further advancements can't be noticed by the human eye. I believe the PS1 --> PS2 and PS2 --> PS3 were much more impressive.

Of course this is based on what was shown so far. I'll need to play it on an HDTV for my final judgement. And I will also have to wait for later games. Though I doubt I would have the ability to truly appreciate the entirety of the advancement.

Just look at the launch games for PS3... they are close or only a little better than GoW2, Shadown of Colossus or Vangrant Story... Killzone launch title for PS4 is way better than GoW:A for example.

You kidding?  Are you telling me that Resistance and Motorstorm look "only a little better" than late-gen PS2 games?

GoW2:

Shadow of the Colossus:

Resistance, Fall of Man:

Motorstorm:

Aside from the character models of the colossi in Shadow of the Colossus, none of those late-gen PS2 games are even comparable to a 1st gen PS3 game from a graphics standpoint.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Yes, Gow2 was comparable to Genji and Untold Legends. NBA '07 was comparable to NBA 07 on Ps2. Why are you comparing an action game to a racing game?

I was comparing the top late-gen PS2 exclusives to the top PS3 launch exclusives.  Why are you comparing sports games?  That's a terrible barometer... Madden '06 on 360 looked hardly any better than Madden on the current gen consoles of the time for example, and it played even worse due to the bugs.

I'd kind of expect that. Those demoes were beta-software, using grphics systems in their late beta-stage, running on an os in late beta-stage. I'm not even sure if Sony really gave acces to all the nifty things in the hardware at that time. Launch software will probably look like polished PS3 software, but without frame rate chaos - which should aready be good enough for most gamers.

Like I said, Ps3 launch titles were like polished Ps2 titles.

The graphical leap from PS3 to PS4 is in fact bigger than the graphical leap saw in PS2 to PS3.

Killzone Shadow Fall showed the biggest graphical leap between generations I ever see in a launch game for any platform.

October seems so far away. =/

I would like some of these games that I see running at 1080p and 60fps that were gimped on this gen's consoles like ME and Skyrim to be ported over at a lowered cost. Skyrim would be awesome with a nice framerate. Considering the PC architecture it would be pretty easy to do I'd think.

That's up for debate. Don't make me post pics, bub!

Agreed. For anyone who can't see Crysis 3 running at its full potential, check out some of the "7 Wonders" gameplay footage on Youtube. It really shows the Killzone demo's limits, at least in its current form.
