Forums - Gaming - So, errr, Vita is basically done for in North America, right?

I think cell phones really hit the vita harder than the 3ds. One of the great features of the sony handhelds were their media functionality and use as a non gaming device. Now all those uses are covered by cell phones too. I am a little interested in the Vita, but I can justify the purchase right now.

They need to put Pokemon on it.

Yup, smartphones have completely killed Vita in that regard.

Handhelds aren't really supported in the west. Sony's studios are western and concentrate on their consoles. Nintendo is Japanese and focus on their handheld.

no it's not dead, but it will never be as successful as the PSP outside of Japan, and probably not there either. I basically see the PSV as a continuation of the post crisis core and GTA PSP after the hype died down. PSV could die if it wasn't for Japan, Japan guarantees there is a future for the PSV. I had been saying this for a while but despite the initial low sales in Japan you could still see there was interest for the PSV. I don't see a price cut having a big effect in NA at all, i really think it's doomed to fairly low sales in that region.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

It's weird how Sony fans used to say 'wait till its first x-mas in the West', and now somebody's saying 'wait till e3 before you judge Vita'.

Anyways, a price drop should ease the painfully low Vita sales, and couple that with some heavy hitting games and the conectivity with PS4 will surely push some sales.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

omg the mem cards, who the fuck charges $90 for 32gb, if i wasnt a plus user i wouldnt have ever dreamed of buying the 32gb

Its not fair to judge the vita till after its 6th xmas

hey you were the guy claiming all those things for sony at e3 this year right? for those of use that have a vita will we be seeing any games for it? As killzone may do very little to help now as killzone ps4 will run on vita which is going to be pretty mind blowing but hopefully less laggy than god and ico have been for me

Well it is far from dead and I see Sony as having two options. The first and obvious is to just keep pumping out great games (yes it has them) and give it a price cut.

The second solution is less probable but IMO more likely (wtf those contradict (exactly)); turn the Vita into an open emulator. They have been working towards console quality games on the system yet most people incorrectly say "it's better to just play PS3." The other side of the game spectrum is already being filled by smartphones. Well now with full remote play built into the PS4 on EVERY* game I just can't see Vita games of console IPs being successful. Already I'm wondering why I'd play Killzone: Mercenaries on it when I could stream Killzone: Shadow Fall onto it in full HD glory. Heck I even played most of GOW HD collection on my Vita. So now with remote play being seamless, what is the point of Vita games at all? It's already close to that with all of the cross-buy games. Sony should just stop making Vita games.

At the same time very few people would pay $250 just to play PS4 on the go. They first drop the price to $200 and then open up the system so users are encouraged to hack it. Suddenly this device becomes very desirable to a huge chunk of people.

Now the drawback of this is the red ocean strategy. Sony makes money off the software so if they stopped selling software they'd lose money on Vitas. That's why this isn't going to happen lol.
