Ok, from what i see your main problem is letting the internet influence you.

Ignore what you read in the internet. The internet blows everything out of proportion, making big deals of something almost irrelevant.
Bugs on games have always happened since the days of old. The only difference here is that once someone finds one nowadays they put it on the internet and its instantly all over the web. This can be replicated to reviews/articles that change your pre-desposition towards a game.

Try this: Dont read about games in the internet anymore. I know its difficult, but without these pre-emptive views there to influence you, you will see things with a fresh perspective and realise that the internet, while a great tool is getting out of hand.

So drop $60 on something without any indication of whether it is good or not?  I still would look to metacritic at least.  Of course, there is the rental side of things, if that still remains around.

If you have been playing games for some time, you dont need a review to be able to tell wether a game is good or not.

If you still have doubts, wait for the price to drop.

So you are saying go Gamefly and try it first?   I could look into Red Box, etc... as options.

I suppose those are renting services? Yes, those could work aswell.

I don't know if I'm at a crossroads, but definitely taking a break from gaming. Apart from Mario with the kids I haven't touched anything since Ni No Kuni. It's probably end of gen fatigue, everything is a sequel or reboot and it all seems to go for the same generic gameplay formula.

I'm still kinda hyped for Bioshock infinite, first thing that looks genuinely interesting this year (apart from Ni No Kuni) Yeah it's also a sequel/prequel/reboot whatever and I will sample some reviews before buying to see if it doesn't follow the same generic gameplay formula again.
Actually I have higher hopes for Lego city undercover, please let it turn out all right :)

Hopefully next gen will bring some new experiences and more diversity.

Or u could sell them, if they suck. I bought killzone 2 at launch and hated it and sold it for 52 dollars. Fable 2 I sold for 48.

On steam, it's more risky, a lot of games are 10 dollars cheaper and they can have like 20 dollars in bonuses if u like them

You get good games and you get bad games.

Not every game will be riddled with bugs and glitches - and even if some do they are still enjoyable.

Anyways for me gaming is ageless, I can easily go back to older generations and pick up a game that I havent played in a long time or havent played at all but my backlog continues to get bigger especially with the number of platforms that these games are coming out and are being produced for.

I used to have 1 platform and now have over 5 platforms that I have been playing lol.

Well, I don't have issues with older stuff I have.  It is just now falling out of the loop on new stuff for the most part.  My purchasing patterns videogame wise are very much resembling that of casual gamers.  I am not buying a lot.  I do look at a book case completely full of games also, and don't see room for another one on there at all.  Next gen new IPs?  I am really not interested at all.  MAYBE I get next Gears title, because it now adds full deathmatch to the mix.  I also do have plenty of older stuff I can play.  Good games should be replayable.  Heck, on the boardgame side, a good game doesn't expire.

It is a matter of getting new content with me, not dumping my old stuff.

My gaming habits:

My entire life until 2 years ago: Consoles

2 years ago to now: PC, iPhone

Yeah, I've accepted I'm on a similar road. I simply don't have time for deep games, and when I do I have a huge backlog of them, many I'm really itching to play so it's becoming ever more difficult to justify a purchase of a new one (although I'll probably pick up Tomb Raider for $20 eventually).

At the same time, most of free time I do have to play games (other than playing with the family) is when I'm away from the house, commuting or on lunch or waiting for whatever. Android games more than sufficiently fill this void with both quick simple games (Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, etc through to Pac-Man Championship Edition, Frogger, Duke Nuk'm, etc) to deeper games like Yesterday, City of Secrets, and Final Fantasy to fill whatever amount of time I have.

So far with WiiU/PS4 there's simply nothing really game changing. 2nd screen on old controller? So what. Better graphics with ability to share? Big whoop. There's no reason to upgrade. Not when I have enough games to last me years in a bin at home and an endless supply of new ones on my phone.

Unless MS really surprises with something I just GOT to have, I'm content to stick with Wii/360/Android for years to come.

Another thing I face is pressing issues with life. I end up asking if anything is going to help me pay my bills, improve my social life, etc... I have to ask if more of the same really makes a difference, if it isn't making a difference now. Being a console partisan, etc... what does it get you? You don't even get a cookie or t-shit.
