Forums - Sony - Games will run faster on the PS4 then on a PC....

Ethomaz's hall of fame comments indeed.

Luckily you can always buy more powerful hardware for PCs, where as console gamers will be stuck with the same hardware for the next 6+ years. And there is always Mantle and SteamOS promising to reduce the overhead that limits PC performance, tho it remains to be seen how well that works in practice. But sure consoles will always get you great performance relative to the cost if you are happy to settle for whatever spec they target.

Also on PC you can usually make your own tradeoffs of IQ and performance for the best experiance for yourself. For instance if 60FPS is important to you you can achive that with almost all games by lowering other things that are less important to you personally even if you have a system that overall performs worse. Many effects that developers tend to like often look bad or give a poor ROI in terms of performance anyway. So you can still often get a "better" experiance on PC, which why comprehensive settings are important to PC gamers.

Also funny to note if the rumors of the next gen consoles reserving ~3.5GB of their RAM for the OS they will actually have more overhead than windows lol. Hell Windows 8 plus a web browser with 4 tabs open and Steam running only uses 2GB...

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

I guess this guy forgot that video cards in PCs come with their own dedicated GDRR5 ram lol.

Granted that lower end cards will be slower, but the next wave of cards just released are affordable enough for people to upgrade.

Don't forget that the article is only comparing System Ram.
They completely forgot to mention that GPU's have their own dedicated (And usually faster) GDDR5 memory too and in the case of the very-high-end, have more GDDR5 memory than what the consoles have available for games.
In-fact benchmarks have proven over 9000 times through-out the years that System Memory speed on the PC actually has an almost non-existent performance impact, so regardless if you run DDR2 or DDR4 you would not get much benefit, unless of course it's in regards to an IGP or a certain specific task.
Heck, I have 32Gb of the stuff with 64Gb ready to be dropped in once I decide on the rest of my PC's rebuild, so memory wise, the Playstation 4 isn't even in the same league.

If anything, the Playstation 4 will make GDDR5 memory cheaper thanks to scales of economies, so budget GPU's will get more and faster memory whilst the high-end moves onto XDR2 or GDDR6, thanks Sony for making the PC cheaper and faster for low-end machines!

Like I said... only guys with machines equipped with GPUs over the GTX 680/HD 7970 will run games better than PS4.... so ~2% of the PC gamer users.

Every gamer developer always asked for more and fast RAM... 8GB GDDR5 give them that.

Hey, I'm in the top 2% then!  My computer is closing in on 2 years and is speced higher than the PS4.

A 4-5 year old PC can be specced higher than the Playstation 4, it's really not hard actually if you think about it. :P
It is a shame that Mantle will only be geared for GCN and not VLIW to give those machines a longer life.

Nope. Maybe on a crappy port that was built on PS4 and half-assed on a port to other consoles/PC, but not in general and certainly not past the first year of the consoles life when PCs are on average far more powerful.

Really, all this super computer talk for PS4 is getting annoying.

Especially since its only focusing on memory and ignoring the down-clocked APU with mobile-series CPU/GPUs.

Yeah... its uber-crazy-powerful. It'll run on love even.

Its starting to sound like the PS3 all over again.

The hype started with the PS2......It was as powerful as a super computer they said.  A year later two new consoles came out that were more powerful.  Don't believe the hype.

I will also soon joy in with a sub 200$ video card lol.

I just love to be elitist and spend outrageous ammounts of money on the absolute best gpu's just to be superior to the next gen consoles lol

With ultrabook graphics and crappy console ports, the answer is yes.

If you would read what he said, he said computers with DDR3 ram, he isent referring to ones that are built with the latest graphics cards etc. Just a specific kind, i do get pcs are better though it depends not all computers.
