You'd have a hard time arguing that AMD doesn't provide better value for your money. So unless things change by next gen, I will go AMD.

My GPU purchases across multiple PCs in the last 5 years are as follows:
9800GTX-->GTX260-->GTX470-->GTX580SLI-->HD6850-->GTX560 Ti SLI-->GTX 670SLI-->HD7750

...so I can really go either way.

Wait, what the hell happened with that last jump? Did the 670s break or what?

hehe...nah 7750 was for a media PC I built. This is not an evolution but just a list of purchases.

I still have my 3570k + 670 SLI rig but its mostly collecting dust. Prolly cause I moved to my desk. I beat DmC few weeks ago on the couch with an Athlon X4 and HD7750 lol. Really impressed with the HD7750 mind you. Cost me 90 bucks, runs on a 250W PSU and plays most games on high 720p or medium detail 1080p.

The performance around $100 range has gotten so much better.

The last one I had in that price range was a 4670 a few years back...it was a piece of shit. XD

lol...still have it. 512 MB model. Its in my media server and yeah, it couldn't even run Doom 3 properly.

nVidia has the most advanced GPU Tech actually but the AMD is cheaper... even more if you go with APUs.

the architecture of the GPU used in consoles will have very little effect on the performance of games on PC. The environment is very different on PC and the level of abstraction you have with DirectX limits the specific optimisations devs can do. Nvidia still has it The Way it's Meant to be Played program and while AMD have made strides with their Gaming Evolved program in recent years half the games will still be optimised towards Nvidia cards thanks to that and the other half can ill afford to neglect Nvidia for long due to their greater market share compared to AMD.

Price, performance and drivers are the factors you need to consider not which hardware is used in consoles.

Always used nvidia, and don't see any reason to change direction. AMD can have my money for the consoles, and that should do them good. That will put AMD chips in 3 rooms in my house, and nvidia in one. I will probably do two upgrades during this generation, 2016 and 2020. I try to stick to a 4 year upgrade cycle.

I have a new build coming up sometime in the summer with FX-8120 and possibly GTX680 so half AMD/half Nvidia :P

I would expect games to run even better on AMD systems now when multiplats themselves are allways made on an AMD hardware.

My first PC had an Nvidia card, but that was years ago. For my custom PC I'll be going with AMD, because, from what I've seen, in the $200-250 range, their cards seem to have the edge on Nvidia's in both power consumption and performance.

Right nows I have an AMD six core CPU and an Nvidia Nforce motherboard with Nvidia GTX video card. I've almost always gone with AMD for CPU because of the price advantage. I may have to consider an entire AMD PC next time. AMD has really made big movements with their CPU/GPU bundles.

Have had mostly AMD's in my computer buying days, but also had lots of problems with them throughout their life.

The geforce I bought has suprassed my expectations and have had no problems with it ever yet, so I will be sticking with Nvideo for the forseeable future.

Back to Nvidia for my next rig. Always had issues with overclocking on ATI/AMD cards.

I always focus on the best bang for my buck at the time of the build.

In other words, which is best for about $150?

I don't worry so much about its gaming capabilities as I do that mostly on a console and rarely on PC anyways. Maybe as my kids get older and desire that, but then they can pitch in on the costs too.

I've built two PCs since like 2001. Spent about $1700 on both including monitors. Never had an issue.
