The most convenient part of PSN is that I don't have to be bothered out of my time and energy, scavenging for deals on sites such as Newegg and Amazon just to play my games online.

It better. That is one of the main reasons I'm switching over to the station next gen. Well the awesome exclusives and ridiculous power are also major points though.

PSN gave me $10 to spend in the PSN store for free.

PSN has the best service ever.

So if I gave you $10 in real life would you become my best buddy? serious question by the way : )

Its like Spotify, free version still gives you the ability to play online, jut like Spotify allows you to liten music. Paying for premium and your experience gets richer.

I know! This is so Petty!!! How can they give online service free!!!! those bastards!!!

They should be charging $34.99 for 12 months

This isn't intended as a bash to either service in any way, and if you see it as such it's not my fault, but:

There has long been the line 'you get what you pay for' with regards to the free service on PSN, amongst other arguments the three main points often brought up at: voice chat with friends, higher download speeds, not as much lag - these points are used to justify the pricetag of the other service - i'm not bashing the other service in any way as it works just fine, however looking at these justifications:

Voice chat: only a really small percentage of players on PS3 actually use headsets, and in most cases other headset users and non-headset users kinda wish they didn't.

Download speed: it's remarkable how many people who "own both systems" (read, use xbox gamercards and are in most sony/ps3 threads talking poop) have a notable difference in speed on their 360 over their ps3, both my ps3 and 360 download at a solid 8.8mb/s when nothing major has been released, after a much hyped demo or shortly after a system update or major game release (online play featured prominently) both services suffer from slower speeds, but for the most part any difference is minor and easily chalked up to the different routing both connections take.

Lag: I play Battlefield 1943 on my PS3 a lot.. according to the official site my total play-time is now: 24d 10h 49m
With that in mind i experience lag very, very rarely, and many of those few occasions have been down to forgetting to limit/turn off torrents, newsleecher or other heavy-hitting network applications, pretty much the exact same deal for 360.

Do i think that psn is better? no, do i think xbl is worth the price? no, would i be offended if both services met in the middle and offered a years online play for $25, not at all, i'd happily pay it.

What i will bash however is people using that flawed, age old argument of 'you get what you pay for', you may argue it isn't flawed, but then apply it to a sexual partner and watch it fall apart entirely.
