Really? That's what the fuss was about?
Sessler is fucking dead to me, apparently the trophy name is because the character Orkos chooses to help Kratos instead of his mother not because you beat the boss
I have watched a lot of the campagne through youtube the last days. And what i can truly say ( i saw about 3 hours) is that it matched GOW 3 pretty easily in everything. Sure i need to play the whole game ( my game will arrive on tuersday, so expect a review from GOW Ascension next weekend at latest from me).
The scene with the mechanics snakes alone is more epic than everything i saw this whole gen.

Definitely a step below GOW3 in that regard, and the story is silly and superflous." "Watched the entire game. This is def super puzzle focused compared to GOW3. It also has a much much better combat system. The story is dumb and the boss fights are very very bad and in my opinion is easily the worst of the series." ^Quote to the one above: "Yup so true. sigh.."

lol the guys watched the best in moments in the YouTube... oh god... and the imerssion of the game
Anyway it is a prequel... not a direct sequel... so the story is expected to be a little worst but the added features are great.

No I'm playing the PS3 version, near the end of the game actually. I put in the PC version now to see how much further they went with the game's engine. And yes the PS3 version does come close, it goes further. There's only four things Uncharted does better, shading, animations and models and water. As far as models go only the main characters in Uncharted look better (Thugs you kill look about the same quality), and Lara herself looks just as good as Drake does (Other characters, not so much). Tomb Raider gives you more freedom and larger environments than all 3 Uncharteds, keeps up the level of detail and gives you better lighting. Yes I was wrong about the cutscene render farm, they use 8 PS3s: https://twitter.com/cbalestra/status/104624986450440192. Ascensions doesn't do anything better than God of War 3, it's more refined, you have more moving environments, but the overall look and lighting quality stayed the same, up until the end of the prologue anyways, I need to finish up Tomb Raider before I move on with God of War. Edit: I'm thinking too much of Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3's size of levels are just as big, looking at it again. |
Just to add something to the graphics debate. The closest we have right now to objectivity is the Digital Foundry face-off (even though i rather trust Lens of Truth more) that states that the console of choice with the better version of Tomb Raider is the PS3 but from the few words and the title they rather think that it doesn't surpass Uncharted.
On topic: after playing the demo I'm convinced to buy the game anyway, but was rather expecting higher metascore.
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!

The other three games got above a 90; GOWIII got a 92. A 12-point drop from one game to the next is pretty steep to me.

It'd the end of the gen. Get used to it. Halo 4 gotan 87! Titles are being scored lower than normal.

Considering the criticisms I've read in reviews and other posts alongside that drop--namely, a weaker single player experience alongside multiplayer I don't give two fucks about--I can't not be worried. Especially when it sounds like the problems I had with GOWIII (lame story, scale overtaking the gameplay) were exacerbated even further.
That's on top of their going with an expansion of Ghost of Sparta's elemental system (which I never liked) and weapon drops, instead of giving you a permanent, varied arsenal like the other games. And I wanted them to focus on the period BEFORE Kratos was tricked into killing his family, not after.
The fact is, I didn't think GOWIII deserved a 92 at all. So to see critics giving this such a lower score gives me pause.

Eh, people expect too much out of prequels. There's only so much they can do with having to re-write the script. Think back on the most popular prequels, Resident Evil 0 comes to mind. No matter what, they rarely are loved by the series' veterans. |
Yeah ofcourse thats true. It is a prequel after all. But I think everyone wanted a sequel after III so the comparisons are bound to happen.
