I sort of disagree with pachter...............

The vita's OLED screen will come down in price faster than the reductions in chips, and currently oled screens are pretty expensive for what you get. Give it one or two years for manufacturers to reduce costs and you could see some more price cuts.

Also, the connectibility thing shouldn't be overlooked at all. Sony has another device to port games off of, and if anything this will mean more sales for them.

I'd say that the Vita's progress will be similar to the PS3, horrible at first, but getting progressively better compared to its competition, the 3ds, over time.

I'm not exactly sure I agree with Pach here. While I was in New York I noticed a lot of people playing PSPs on the train. I will admit about half of the time they were listening to music, but the majority told me they play their systems fairly often (games). The great majority of them have no clue what the PS Vita is. o_O Also, I saw some people playing alternative systems as well, such as the 3DS. Based on what both groups told me they either do not know about the Vita or see little to no reason to purchase one at this point. I think he Sony gets the marketing up, lowers the price and put quality games on the system we will see a turn around. Most of the PSP people seem very happy and have no reason to leave. Sony needs to give them reasons to think otherwise.

As for my home country ... .it is even worse. Nobody knows what a Vita is :D PSP is a household name, and almost nobody is aware it has a successor. :/

There isn't really any significance to week one sales after a price drop.  What matters is where the weekly sales will settle with the new price point.  May take a few weeks to know.

I like my Vita but I just cant see it shifting the same numbers as the PSP which was launched behind a wave of massive hype. I remember reading in EDGE about Sony touting PSP's ability to "compliment gameplay" of the PS2's successor. They even had a mock of Gran Turismo running on a telly with the PSP acting as a rear view mirror. Exciting stuff. It also had some of the best games commited to handheld as well as access to PSN and its Psone library.

Vita's remaining trump card? Promises of PS4 compatability...
