Microsoft’s president of Interactive Entertainment Business Don Mattrick, has said the firm’s doesn’t consider Valve a competitor despite the firm readying a living room system of its own.
Speaking during the firm’s Verge-attended TechForum Mattrick admitted that while Valve is “doing some innovative stuff,” he feels Apple, Google, Nintendo, and Sony products coming to market are “a little bit richer” than Valve’s Steam Box.
“I love Gabe, I was there for his lifetime achievement award so it’s wonderful to see what they’re creating,” he said adding that he doesn’t see Microsoft adopting Valve’s open platform policies on its own Xbox consoles.
“There’s a certain level of technical and production competency that people have to get through because we’re trying to curate great experiences,” said Mattrick. “We’re trying to make sure that what exists upon our service on our system is done to a quality level and has interest for people who are likely to use it.”
Microsoft is rumored to be revealing its next Xbox console next month on April 26.
