Forums - General - Do you believe in extraterrestrial life(aliens)?

So do you believe in life forms somewhere out there in space?  An aliens that are like us in ways?  Let's have discussions about it.

I do! There are too many stars out there that life would not had happened somewhere else as well. The real question is: will we ever get to meet any of them.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

I think it's pretty silly to think we are the only planet with life. A universe of 70 billion light years, with over 100 billion galaxies, each with a couple trillion solar systems which probably have about 10 planets around them (that's just a guess). So that gives us 10^34 chances of there being life. The question should not be whether or not there is life in the universe, but whether there is life that we can find relatively soon (within 100 years).

He who hesitates is lost

Life can exist as single celled organisms in extremes on this planet, assuming it can't anywhere else would be silly.

Most times the question shouldn't be 'is there life out there?' but more 'is there intelligent life out there?'. Did another world evolve and develop like we have. It's hard to think about that one. If they did, I assume even if they have advanced technology, I do not believe space travel will ever be easy, even for us, we won't ever find the Deus Ex Machina in a Mass Effect Relay so I don't believe we will ever leave our solar system to find out.

Hmm, pie.

They'll find us before we find them. We're a young planet at 4.54 billion years compared to a Universe of 13.77 billion years, and an extremely young species at ~2 million years for hominids, far less for homo sapiens.

Just imagine everything that has been invented in the past 200 years and compare it to what we could accomplish in a billion (assuming we make it).

Some star system somewhere is bound to have life....and we are gonna conquer it someday.

Manifest destiny bitches!

Yeah I believe there is life out there. I don't believe we'll ever meet them in this century unless someone finds a stargate or something.

Yes of course. The universe is too vast with too much repetition to not have more life, probably a lot more. That's just this dimension too.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

You should all check out this video. Very interesting and kind of touching the subject:

OT: Yes. And it would be foolish to assume that there aren't any.

No, I don't think so. Our existence does not prove alien existence like many people believe. That's like assuming "I have a Rubik's cube in my hand so obviously someone else out of 7 billion people also has a Rubik's cube in their hand." While that statement is very probable, it can still be wrong.

Now the reason I believe we are alone is simple; YouTube told me.
