What will the games be released on if there's no Blu-ray? DVD's are too small and i don't see them going digital only. Also, i'm glad this say 2nd hand games are not blocked, that rumour needs to go away now

Do you know the WiiU, it has 50GB HD-Discs but not uses blu-ray, Microsoft could do the same use random 50Gb Discs you have not to use blu-ray if you want 50gb Discs.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to use Blu-ray since thats in mass production anyway

Nintendo always use own Discs they never used DVDs or Blu-Ray because they don't want to pay Sony fees for the players and discs. So I think Ms might probalby do the same from now on it is sure cheaper to use random 50 gb Discs were they have not to pay fees for than to use blu ray.

Blu Ray would only make sense for movies but Microsoft established with netflix and online video rental stores anyway many other opportunities to watch movies on Xbox so it would make not many sense to use a pricier disc format were they have to pay fees than to use own 50gb discs.

Nintendo always walked the path of creating their own format and not using DVD etc, the only time i remember they used a sub proprietory was CD from Philips. On the other hand MS has always used DVD and never created or used their own proprietory format, so its safe to assume they will use Blu-ray, or else a modiefied version of HD-DVD minus the HD movie playback capability.

Who reads the op before commenting? This is as phony as a three dollar bill. How the duck would they even fit it in a 360 slim shell? Why the duck would they even do that and risk getting it confused for a 360?

If you read it carefully, it says that the prototypes are in 360 slim shells. Obviously the final product will have a brand new casing.

So that means MS designed MB layout, ports and heatsink design to that of a 360 slim? If thats true then the final size of X8 will be around Wii U's size. Still very hard to believe

this thing about bluray... my guess its they will do the same as nintendo... it uses the technology (the reading ray inside the ODD its bluray technology) but it won't play the BD Discs of movies, because its another license they have to pay. i think they want to use netflix and other services like it, to do that entertainment hub thing. with netflix they make money and with BD movie Discs they have to pay. What MS is ignoring is the rest of the world besides US and UK , where those kind of services are rare or none... i guess US and UK will not care, the rest will not like it very much.

They will use Blu-ray drives, but not blu-ray format. The technology on Nintendo consoles is always the same as the standard one, yet they remove the posibility of the playback (and as Wii moding community has proved it can be added with software only). Microsoft could do exactly the same, use mass produced blu-ray drives and remove the Blu-ray reproduction capabilities, that means the advantage of mass production, without having to pay the Blu-ray group to use their format and continue their push toward streaming and downloaded content.

Fake after reading no bluray. Kinda essential to the whole media hub strategy that MS is pushing

What if people wanted to play blu-ray movies? Doing that, would stop that wouldn't it? On Wii U, which has there own discs, you can't even watch DVD's! despite it being standard since PS2 came out in 2000

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

I don't know if I believe all of this. No Blu-Ray?

Exactly. That's what makes it so absurd!

It will not include Blu-Ray???

Hey! N4G accepted this guys article, so it must be true.

i think it will definitely have blu-ray,i mean come on what else could they use instead!

They could use their own disc format like Nintendo do with the WiiU. It would cost MS way lesser if they create their own 50-100GB discs.

Yeah because it surely doesn't cost them any money in R & D to create the technology for ultra-high density discs...
