Do you know the WiiU, it has 50GB HD-Discs but not uses blu-ray, Microsoft could do the same use random 50Gb Discs you have not to use blu-ray if you want 50gb Discs.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to use Blu-ray since thats in mass production anyway

They will use Blu-ray drives, but not blu-ray format. The technology on Nintendo consoles is always the same as the standard one, yet they remove the posibility of the playback (and as Wii moding community has proved it can be added with software only). Microsoft could do exactly the same, use mass produced blu-ray drives and remove the Blu-ray reproduction capabilities, that means the advantage of mass production, without having to pay the Blu-ray group to use their format and continue their push toward streaming and downloaded content.

What if people wanted to play blu-ray movies? Doing that, would stop that wouldn't it? On Wii U, which has there own discs, you can't even watch DVD's! despite it being standard since PS2 came out in 2000

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)
