Forums - Nintendo Discussion - RUMOR: Activision Upset at Black Ops II Wii U Sales, Says Nintendo Fans Are All Talk

http://gengame.net/2013/03/rumor-activision-upset-at-black-ops-ii-wii-u-sales-says-nintendo-fans-are-all-talk/

Given that the Wii U has a relatively small install base, no one expected Call of Duty: Black Ops II to sell like hotcakes on the system, but according to indie developer Calvin Hall the sales numbers are much lower than what Activision expected. Hall claims to have met with “an employee for a studio that makes games for Activision” who revealed that Activision is extremely unhappy with the sales of the Wii U port, going as far as to call out Nintendo fans for their hypocrisy.

Activision didn’t expect much from Wii U sales of Black Ops 2, but they sure didn’t expect it to be that abysmal. Activision gave Wii U owners the best version of Blops 2 with Off TV features, and Nintendo fans didn’t support it. It’s easy for Nintendo fans to trash publishers for not giving them ports, but publishers have wisened up. They realize Nintendo fans are all talk. Nintendo fans are vocal with their mouths, but when it’s time to open their wallets, they’ll spend that $60 on New Super Mario Bros instead.

Hall’s source went on to voice his opinion that developers at D.I.C.E. remain unimpressed by the Wii U, echoing a sentiment similar to another report from D.I.C.E. that surfaced a few weeks ago.

There’s just no enthusiasm for it. The only reason publishers are still going to bring games to Wii U is because they don’t want to damage their relationship with Nintendo.

Low software sales numbers are to be expected from such a young system, especially when the software in question is available on other consoles with larger install bases. It’s also no surprise that Nintendo fans “would rather buy New Super Mario Bros.,” given that Mario is Nintendo’s bread and butter.

Still, there’s a growing concern in the industry that third parties are already losing interest in the Wii U before it has any chance to get any momentum. How about it, Nintendo fans? Are you willing to put your money where your mouth is and buy the Wii U version of multiplatform games like Call of Duty?

I read an article that said online multiplayer for Wii U CODBLOPS2 in Japan was down, and nobody even noticed it was down for over two days.

Didn't pretty much every single CoD game released for Wii sell over 1mil? Of course Nintendo gamers are going to buy Nintendo games over Activisions, that's why they shouldn't release them side-by-side. Really, the only way to get around this is for Nintendo to push their blockbuster titles to a few weeks before, or a few weeks after, the newest CoD release.

This was completely expected in a sense. A lot of us were deluding ourselves that BO2 would become a million seller on Wii U. No one is buying Wii U to play BO2. People who play that regularly already have a PS3 or 360 for that game. So its not a surprise that it didn't sell well. Plus given the very low sales of the Wii U, its even more expected.

It will be interesting to see if the Wii U will get the next edition of COD this year.

Already bought Call of Duty for Wii U and it really is the best version as the developers claim. Hardly anyone wants to buy third party games on a Nintendo console anymore because of the poor support from third parties over the years. However Activision dont deserve treatment like this because they actually put effort into their games on Nintendo consoles. I think Nintendo failed to advertise and inform gamers that game was on its console. There are loads of COD fans out there that would salvate at the mouth if they saw at least a television ad of the game they love so much being played off screen on tv. Nintendo is not marketing Wii U for some weird reason and it does not make any sense. The only marketing campaign was they ever had around christmas sucked but it still managed to push a little more than 3 million consoles.

I guess I'm not the Nintendo fans they're talking about. But I knew this would happen to the Wiiu ver of this game. And the fans that had the big mouth are now making the entirety look bad.
I swear this is not the first time this situation happened...

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

Awww... poor Activision. The 16 bazillion copies sold on other consoles just isn't enough.

I thought BO2 was getting a lot of shit right before/during the Wii U release because it was inferior. There were multiple comparison videos and screens showing this. Now all of a sudden it's not a gimped port?

Anyways, if I was Activision I would also be worried that I can't make games that appeal to the owners of the console.

I fully agree with OT.

Nintendo fans arent supportive of ports. Then we bitch. I plan on selling a huge lot from my game collection and buying up 3rd party WiiU launch titles. We gotta send the right message together

It never was a gimped port to begin with, it was just a bunch of haters looking for anything to doom the console. I have the game and the only part i get drame dips thats noticible is during the campaign on the mission where youre running to get to the hellicopter. Its a bug cause it always slows down on that mission alone. The rest of the game is fine, the multiplayer does not get frame drops rarely lags and plays just as smooth on the screen of the controller.
