Gameplay > everything else. Although there are exceptions to the rule - take The Walking Dead and Heavy Rain. Both have pretty average gameplay but are great games due to the way each story is told and truely memorable characters.

I'm greedy, so I want both to be good.
But if I have to choose, I pick better gameplay gladly. I already have for many years--I wouldn't play most fighting games otherwise.
story, visuals, and gameplay. but not HD visuals. PS2 graphic's would suffice.
I would take excellent gameplay with no story over excellent story with no gameplay. A game with no gameplay isn't really a game, is it? It's more of a movie that gives you pieces of control a few times. A game with no story on the other hand can provide the player with a variety of different experiences. You get better challenges, the subsequent accomplishment, exploration, learning enemies, learning worlds, etc.
I guess the question could really be phrased as "Do you like movies or video games?"

Thing is, there are games with poor gameplay but awesome story that couldn't actually be movies or books. So no, games with little gameplay are still games.

On the other hand, I can enjoy games that are "pure gameplay". You just need what seems apropiate for each type of game or what the game creators want to express. |
games that are "pure gameplay" are just games that have a shit of a story and developers/fans want to hide that fact, so they act like its not important

I didn't say poor gameplay, I said no gameplay.

Is there really a "game" without actually gameplay?
Both like Uncharted franchise. Journey is a good example too.
There is no option for good gameplay and good story in the pool... so between the two options I will choose story over gameplay (I'm not sure about that).
I'll choose gamplay over story any day, however I do still enjoy story focused games.
