I agree, Nintendo has so many shooters that desperately need online functionality.

3rd parties do.  1st parties is not the issue with nintendo. It is 3rd party that has issues because other platforms are better for them due to more features

Last time I checked, third party games that need it are actually having online functionality. I don't see where Nintendo is blocking anyone in this regard.

And how is that comparison next to X360/PS3?  Side by side

Side by side, FIFA 13 has online multiplayer on all consoles.

Side by side, Call of Duty has online multiplayer on all consoles.

Side by side, Mass Effect 3 has online multiplayer on all consoles.

Side by side, Assassins Creed 3 has online multiplayer on all consoles.

Side by side, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has online multiplayer on all consoles.

Side by side, Need for Speed: Most Wanted has online multiplayer on all consoles.

Side by side, Fist of the North Star: Kens Rage 2 has online multiplayer on all consoles.

Side by side, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has online multiplayer on all consoles.

Side by side, Resident Evil Revelations: Unveiled Edition has online multiplayer on all consoles.

That's all the games I know of.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Your post could be quite a bit shorter without the apology paragraphs at the start and at the end.

1. It's pretty clear that the Wii U was launched in an unfinished state, so it's not surprising that Nintendo's launch games don't have online play. There will be games with online multiplayer in the future, because the Wii already had them.

2. Since you haven't collected all gold medals in NSMBU, achieving stuff in games can't be all that important to you. The challenge mode in NSMBU also keeps a replay of your best attempt which you can use to show off your skills.

3. A headstart is an advantage for a reason. It allows a company to fix problems before the competition arrives. Nintendo has already promised system updates for spring and summer. As for multimedia, Nintendo has video streaming services on board, plus an apparently good internet browser. What else do people really want from a console?

But most importantly, why did I even write this?

It could be shorter but if it was shorter then it would look like Im just trying to bash the WiiU.  I feel these are all problems heading into the next generation of consoles.  The casual crowd have moved onto phones and the Wii Fit crowd will likely not return either.

A headstart is great if you take advantage of it like the X360 did.  The WiiU is not taking advantage of its headstart at the moment.

And achievemtns has a competive side to comparing with friends.

We don't know what the launch of ps4 or nextbox might look like. Nintendo will have wind waker soon, a new mario game around christmast, and some system updates before this christmast. So if the new consoles comes out of the gate in a similar way to wii u, nintendo will have their problems fixed already, and therefore have a advantage. Nintendo is using this year to build up the system.

All I get from the OP is that Nintendo and Sony are lucky to live in a world where the Xbox brand has done so much for gaming. Wah.

As for the rest, Sony and Microsoft have a business model where they change and adapt to new trends and different tastes. Nintendo's model has always been one where they make the device the way they want it to be, which customers can either take or leave. They're very, very slow to go after new core customers or those who are looking for more variety. Intentional or not, that's how they are. They definitely don't appeal to everyone--they seem to be trying to change that with the Wii U, but only kind of. They're niche somewhat by design.

How did you come up with that?  Did i say anything bad about sony. NOT ONE bad thing did i say about them so maybe you shouldnt jump to conclusions

I've made it obvious time after time that my PS3/X360 are my two favrite consoles not just of this generation, but of all time.  If you are ranting about me saying something about XBox Live that is simply because that is where it all started 11 years ago and it is sad that Nintendo has yet to catch up to PSN/XBL.

It is absolutely pathetic that ihave to tip toe around people like you who get offended over the smallest things.

I would hardly call one glib comment "ranting".  I just thought it interesting how Xbox repeatedly "changed gaming forever", and how you listed things for it like downloadable content and video streaming when they're also on other consoles.  It was kind of amusing and made it sound as though Sony and Nintendo had done very little to alter the course of the industry.  Calm yourself.

And no, that's not where online console gaming started, though I definitely give Microsoft credit for bringing competitive multiplayer to consoles.

I am mainly talking about feautures, not just multiplayer.

Why would you get a 3rd party game for the Wii now WiiU when other consoles offers a better version of it?  That is what im saying.  Not the case with every game but in many cases it is whether it is a simple feauture as chat or using the OS.  And while right now the graphics are similar to the X360/PS3 they will likely be behind again as the they bring out successors.  Which leaves third parties once again crippled compared to the other consoles.

If Im correct, Dreamcast had live?  Could be wrong on that.  PC is what started online but it wasnt mainstream.  The first successful online service for consoles was xbox mainly because of Halo.

And no you are just reading too much into what I was saying.  Do you honestly think that XBL/Achievements didnt change gaming?  I thought it was implied that PSN has been similar to XBL?  Just for you I will add an extra sentence though.

Best comment ever. Nobody cares about really achieving high scores but do care about virtual points that adds nothing and think everybody else look at they're achievementpoints? Also, you can put screenshots online in a community with tenthousands of people to show off your high scores. It will reach many more people than achievementpoints because nobody cares to scroll to another's achievements. Nintendo actually does achievements better than the competition, but nobody cares because its Nintendo.

The amount of features is entirely in third parties hand, so again, I don't see how it's Nintendos doing.

Hey Jay,

1.I'll agree with this one. Nintendo tired to downplay online gaming and they were wrong and they had to play catch up with the Sony and Microsoft.

2. Trophies are nice, but they always seemed to me like cheap positive reinforciment of a person's self worth. For the people that bitch and compliant about Nintendo not having them, I would suggest looking for more substance things to build up their self imagne.

3. How did Mircosoft use thier headstart? Oh right they  lanuched a console with 45 percent failure rate and pissed off a lot of thier fans who were early adopters of the 360, and the PS3 and Wii caught to them eventually.

Yes, the Dreamcast was where it started, especially with Phantasy Star Online and Quake, not to mention having a web browser and other online functions, such as watching video.  The Xbox gave it a push, but Sega started it.  The PS2 probably did the most to make it popular.

As someone who doesn't care about achievements/trophies at all, though, I would say that they haven't changed gaming, only added to it.  Millions of people wouldn't notice if achievements/trophies went away tomorrow.  However, I do agree that they add something for many others, and Nintendo is making their games less attractive to those people by not having their own version.

1.  Glad we agree.

2. We will just have to agree to disagree.  A lot of people do find it important.

3.  Yes the RRoD was horrible but people was still rushing out to buy them regardless.  You are ignoring the many good things it did while it did make mistakes too.  It took avantage by amping up online and releasing good games that people wanted.
